Several U.S. states accuse Meta of designing Facebook and Instagram in ways that can keep children and teens hooked, harm their wellbeing, and collect some children’s data without proper parental permission. Meta denies the allegations and says it has worked to make its platforms safer for teens. The trial could lead to major fines and changes to how Meta’s platforms work if the states win.
