how i pick a video model
every ranking this month has a different one on top. veo 3.1, seedance 2.5, kling 3.0 turbo, the top five swap places every few weeks so picking by benchmark is useless. i just pick by job, by testing. for instance: hero shot that has to look expensive → veo 3.1 / seedance 2.5. slowest, most realistic, handles audio. one shot one good pass, it's the frame the client remembers, so it's worth the credits. client wants quick options → kling 3.0 turbo or pika. fastest thing you have. ten rough directions beat two perfect ones when they still don't know what they want. same face or same product across shots → Kling 3.0 / seedance 2.5, veo 3.1. they're built around reference images, so this is the only category i actually re-test every couple months, consistency breaks first and costs the most to fix later. longer sequence, something with a story → seedance 2.5, longer windows and it holds composition better. Using one model for all three is the mistake (same reason you don't shoot everything on one lens). anyway, the model matters less than people think. lens first, one light with a direction, say what stays dark, lock list on the motion. that stuff works even on models that don't exist yet.
