Why no checkboxes for Tasks?
I'm a big fan of the task management capabilities in the course and the Taskr videos. Are there any specific reasons you don't use the built-in checkbox with Done State Mapping as part of task management? Would that break something in the scheduling or recurring tasks, or more of an aesthetic decision? On a related note - do your custom task supertags have a Base type of Task?

That makes sense! I'll probably play around with your framework but leveraging the built-in checkboxes now that the new event triggers solve that limitation.
More workflows using Make API Call...
On adding the tag #send to Facebook, I used a Make API Call to a simple workflow in Make.com that takes the node I tagged and posts it to my Facebook page. Facebook doesn't let you programmatically post to your personal feed, but if you create a public page, you can post to that and share it on your feed. Also notice that it automatically says "Published by Make". This workflow can be done in Make.com, n8n, or flowise (or any number of automation platforms)

This is exactly what I want to do too! There’s a lot of talk in the Q&A from the class about not being able to export content. I take it the Make API Call command came out after the class and solves this?

@Nick Silhacek thanks! That’s fair, building inside Tana is definitely a broad and deep domain on its own. The Tana ecosystem also needs more advanced builders if there’s gonna be a market for integration services. Still, good to know there are ways to send data out of Tana. I can see how round-tripping might be particularly difficult but required for many use cases.

Workspaces question
Year old burning question - how do you think about using a CRM-type secondary workspace alongside a main personal one? Any tips on how to manage this? Why a 2nd workspace? I want to wall off personal notes from day job notes in case there’s ever an issue where my employer wants all my work-related notes, and I want to be able to easily carve that out of my system and archive it when I escape the corporate grind someday. What goes in the 2nd workspace? Client and deal-specific notes, meeting notes and prep, ideally AI automation that generates email drafts and PPT outlines (to feed What goes in the 1st workspace? 2nd Brain type stuff, but also things related to the CRM. For example contacts/people notes need to be on the personal side (Rolodex stays with me when I move jobs), and I want to be able to work out of a single calendar and a single view of tasks I’m working on. I like the idea of using the Day node as a captains log that captures all the updates I made in the system that day and any other journaling I want to do. My 1st attempt at this had too much stuff in the 2nd workspace. I built out my CRM system, but it has its own day nodes over there and its own tasks, I can’t get a single view of everything going on across both personal and day job workspaces. I’m not sure if there’s an easy way to work out of my personal Day nodes and manage tasks that exist in the other workspace, or if I need to move the dividing line and have tasks and contact notes in the personal space that are referenced from the day job workspace. Apologies if this is answered later in the course - I’ve been through the week 1 content so far and about to watch the Q&A. My hope is that getting it in here will get it out of my head, so it’s not taking up processing cycles in the back of my brain while I go through the course. If there’s a particular lesson I need to go watch to answer this, point me to it! Thanks!

I’d like to, but I’m not sure how to think about which workspace should be shared with which. I want the personal workspace (probably in the day page) to have a complete view of stuff i did and stuff i need to do across personal and work, so I think that means I should Allow content from the CRM space into the personal. I want the CRM to reference People in the personal space, because that personal network stays alive after the job ends, but I don’t want the CRM space to have access to personal notes about people. I just want it to reference people in my personal space for sales cycles they’re involved in, but keep all the buyer journey steps and deal actions in the CRM, so I can sort of archive that away when the job eventually ends. I think this means I don’t need to Allow content from the personal space into the CRM.

Oh interesting - I hadn’t even thought of that approach. Thanks for surfacing! I’ll let you know how it works out. Sounds like this might also help Lasse out on the multiple workspace front. Another thought I had was to just put everything in my default workspace, and publish out anything I share with work. They don’t necessarily have to know about the intricacies of my “note-taking app”, just like other people who keep stuff in Evernote or Notes or OneNote or whatever. To explore that I need to get further along with how publishing works, or maybe the Make.com stuff coming in future weeks. I guess this also comes back to what I’m hearing in week 4 of the course - I need to document my expectations around experience as a guide as well. Maybe that will make clear what works, because if it’s so consulted I don’t use it, there is no point in doing it.

Hey! I’ve been using Tana since… May ‘23? I remember waiting a few months to get through the waitlist because I didn’t know I could just ask in the Slack community. I’ve spent the most time prior building things in Coda (still do), with a little dabbling in Notion and a brief but exciting time in LogSeq while I waited on the Tana waitlist. Oh and before all that I built stuff on the Salesforce platform (was an employee, had free access, and actually could do quite a lot). If I really go back, my high school summer job was making MS Access databases for local businesses, so I guess I’ve always been in search of elegant systems. I really like the visual layouts you can make in Coda and how well you can summarize and color code things in databases, but it’s tedious to capture and curate at speed, and I really want something that’s more like a knowledge graph with links and re-usable chunks. I go back and forth in Tana trying to make a sort of smart notes zettlekasten, a better CRM for my day job, and a whole life 2nd brain where I imagine everything gets laid out in a way I can 10x myself through AI automation with super dialed-in context. I’d say this is my 3rd try trying to build out my Tana structure, and I have taken 3 other Tana courses before this, but I can already tell this one is next level. Really looking forward to finally realizing the dream.
