At the moment, the self-hosted LiveKit version does not have the cloud front-end to control anything, hence why there's a higher learning curve because you must understand Python code and it must all be configured in a terminal. In terms of the billing, in self-hosted versions LiveKit itself does not bill you for the usage. You essentially pay zero dollars to LiveKit. Instead, you pay the infrastructure cost where you run it. This will be different depending on the terminal and the server you use it on, such as Digital Ocean, Docker, Google Cloud, Azure. These servers you are essentially paying for components such as the CPU, the storage, the bandwidth, etc. And then there are other costs, such as: - All the AI components, such as the LLMs that TTS is the STTs embeddings tools; which usually would happen within API keys. Overall, this approach is much cheaper than any cloud version on the market, but there is an added layer of complexity with configuring and managing the agent.
