Hi, all! My 6 year old son has been having issues at school. Little background- he was adopted with he was 4. He was exposed to drugs/alcohol/etc during pregnancy and was raised by his 14 year old brother until he was 3. I know that he has trauma and developmental delays with adhd. He has recently starting kicking chairs in school, hitting himself, and poking himself with the sharp side of the pencil. He also has been showing signs of defiance, but not angrily. Does anyone have an experience with this? We have an appointment with his pediatrician on Tuesday, but it is so hard to NOT take this personally. I hate to see him struggle and just want to help him. Thanks, all! ♡

@Kayla Dixon It is definitely taking a toll! He does have an IEP for Developmental Delay. He is removed from his classrom for certain subjects for more assistance. Instead of trying to help, they call me and have me come pick him up from school. We have a therapist that comes to the house to assist with behaviors through discussion with me, but, he chalks it up to his age, and thay doesn't sit right with me.

@Sam Hill Thank you! ♡ I have thought about asking the Dr. if he could have an autism diagnosis and what needs to be done for testing. He is an extremely emotional child, which is okay, but screams and yells when he is the tiniest upset.
Welcome!
💬 Let’s Get to Know Each Other I’m so glad you’re here—and I’d love to learn more about you. This community was created to be a supportive, judgment-free space for parents and families, and that starts with connection. Parenting can feel isolating at times, and my hope is that no one here feels like they’re doing it alone. If you’re comfortable, introduce yourself in the comments and share a few of the following (answer as many or as few as you’d like): 1️⃣ What’s your name (or what you’d like to be called)? 2️⃣ How many kids do you have and what ages are they? 3️⃣ What’s one thing you’re currently loving about parenting? 4️⃣ What’s one area you’d love more support, tools, or encouragement in right now? 5️⃣ Just for fun: coffee, tea, or both? ☕🍵 There are no right or wrong answers here—only real ones. Thank you for being brave enough to show up, whether you’re sharing today or just quietly reading for now. You belong here, exactly as you are 🤍 I’m really looking forward to getting to know each of you and walking alongside you in this parenting journey. — Kayla Oh! 1. Hi! My name is Ashley. 2. I have 2 boys! Parker is 6, and Keegan is 5. 3. I love the unconditional love! I love seeing the world through their eyes and seeing how excited over something so simple that we normally take for granted. 4. Both of my boys have ADHD and developmental delays. I would love support on how to help them through these troubling times, and well as techniques to keep ME calm. 5. Coffee in the am, tea in the pm. 😉
