Are your house pipes buried in the snow?
Uncovering house pipes, particularly furnace exhaust and air intake vents, from snow is crucial for safety and preventing severe, costly damage to your heating system‼️ 💡A few keys points; 1.Safety Hazards (Carbon Monoxide) - "Silent Killer": Blocked exhaust vents can cause carbon monoxide (CO), a colorless, odorless, and deadly gas, to back up into your home. 2. Protect Your Heating System - System Failure: When air intake pipes are blocked by snow, the furnace cannot get enough oxygen to burn fuel properly, causing it to shut down automatically for safety. - Damage Costs: A blocked pipe can cause the furnace to overwork, leading to damage to the unit and high repair bills.  3. Which Vents to Clear - Furnace/Boiler Vents: Usually white plastic pipes (PVC) on the side or rear of the house. - Dryer Vents: Can become blocked, creating fire hazards from lint buildup. 4. How to Properly Clear Snow - Use a Broom: Gently brush away snow around the vents. Do not use a shovel or snow blower, which can easily damage the pipes. - Clear a 1-Foot Radius: Ensure at least a foot of clear space around each vent. - Be Persistent: Check vents frequently during and after heavy snow or drifting.
