What a Cattle Dog Needs
Australian Cattle Dogs were bred to move stubborn cattle across long distances, making independent decisions while staying connected to their handler. They are incredibly resilient, intelligent and driven, thriving when they have a job to do. What an Australian Cattle Dog Needs to Feel Fulfilled 🐄 Herding & Control * Treibball * Controlled ball work * Directional exercises * Herding (where available) * Moving objects on cue 🧠 Problem Solving * Shaping exercises * Puzzle feeders * Advanced obedience * Trick training * Decision-making games 👃 Scent Work * Scent detection * Tracking * Find It games * Hidden object searches * Food trails 🤝 Working With Their Handler * Structured heel work * Engagement games * Recall drills * Precision obedience * Target training 💪 Physical Challenges * Hiking * Agility * Obstacle courses * Tug with rules * Fitness and conditioning 🌿 Exploration * Sniff walks * Environmental confidence * New locations * Different surfaces * Confidence-building obstacles Things to Avoid ❌ Endless ball throwing without structure. ❌ Constant high-arousal activities that never teach the dog to switch off. ❌ Allowing them to invent their own "job," such as herding children, bikes or other dogs. ❌ Physical exercise without enough mental stimulation. ❌ Inconsistent rules or boundaries. Great Genetic Outlets * Scent Detection * Tracking * Treibball * Obedience * Rally Obedience * Agility * Structured Tug * Search Games * Puzzle Solving * Confidence Courses * Hiking * Target Training A Fulfilled Cattle Dog A fulfilled Australian Cattle Dog isn't simply a tired dog—it's a dog whose **mind, instincts and natural desire to work alongside its handler have been meaningfully satisfied. When given structure, purpose and clear leadership, a Cattle Dog becomes calm, focused and an incredibly loyal partner. Without those outlets, they'll often create their own job—which may include chasing, nipping, barking or controlling movement around them.

Love this. Thank you so much @Matthew Marsh. Wonderful advice and guidance. Have some homework ahead of us, which gives us confidence. There's plenty of opportunity to improve 🐾
🐾 Kiama Pack Walk is a go! ☕
There’s something pretty special about a morning spent walking with good people, great dogs, and a coffee in hand. 🌊🐶 Whether your dog is just starting their training journey, already smashing it, or you simply want to meet like-minded dog owners, this walk is for you. No pressure. No judgement. Just a community of people who love getting out with their dogs and learning together. 💙 📍 Meet us at Penny Whistlers Café 🕗 8:00am 🚶 We’ll head around the Kiama Lighthouse and back, then stick around for a coffee and a chat afterwards. Bring your family, bring your friends, and of course bring your dog! Everyone is welcome. 🙌 Every person who joins us helps us move one step closer to our mission of saving 10,000 dogs from unnecessary behavioural euthanasia by building stronger relationships between dogs and their people. 🐾 See you there!

📢 Big Announcement for the Walkys Community…
Something really exciting is happening behind the scenes at Walkys, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Over the past few months we’ve been building, refining, and dreaming about how we can make this community even more valuable for every dog owner here. We’re getting close, and in August we’ll be making a big announcement that we think you’re going to love. Before we lock everything in, we’d love your help. 💬 If we were to run a live community call, what day and time works best for you? Drop your answer in the comments so we can make it as accessible as possible for everyone. 🎁 We’ll also be giving away some awesome prizes during the live and, as always, you’ll walk away with plenty of free training, education, and practical advice you can start using with your dog straight away. We’re genuinely excited about where this community is heading, and we’re so grateful you’re on the journey with us. See you in the comments! 👇🐾

🐾 Welcome to Walkys Dog Training Academy
You’re here. And that matters 💛 Walkys exists for dog parents who love deeply but feel stretched thin. The barking, the pulling, the chaos that sneaks into everyday life. This isn’t because you’ve failed, and it’s not because your dog is “too much”. You’re not behind. You’re exactly where you’re meant to be. 🌿 This community is where calm begins. This isn’t just a course platform. It’s a living, breathing community built around structure, clarity, and support 🧠🐾Calm isn’t created alone. It’s built together. ✨ How to get the most out of this space 👋 Introduce yourself Head to the Community tab and say hello.Share your name, your dog’s name and breed, and one thing you’d genuinely love to feel calmer about at home. 💬 Ask questions about your dog Behaviour, routines, feeding, walks, setbacks, wins. Nothing is too small. Our trainers are active inside the community, giving you direct access to real guidance (not generic advice). Ask early. Ask often. That’s what this space is for. 📚 Start The Calm Kickstart The course will go live on 5 January. It’s your foundation. Clear routines, simple structure, and fast clarity so you’re not guessing your way forward anymore. 🗓 Join our weekly live sessions We meet live every week inside Skool: - 🧘 Tuesdays 12:30 pm – The Calm Collective (one calm-building skill each week) - 🚶 Thursdays 12:30 pm – Walk & Talk Q&A (bring your questions and wins) - 🐾 Fridays 9:30 am – Fresh Tracks (perfect for new or resetting members) - All sessions are listed in the Calendar 📅 🎉 Share your wins Every win counts. A calmer walk. A quieter meal time. A peaceful moment that used to feel impossible. Post it. Let the community celebrate with you and learn alongside you. 🤍 This is a judgement-free space built on progress, not perfection. You don’t need to have it all together. You just need to show up. We’re really glad you’re here 🐾💛

Hi thanks for the invite! Max is my 4 yr old Red Cattle Dog. I’m so grateful to Nath and the team - today was his first day and I can already see such a difference in him. He’s going to be so excited for next week to spend more time with the team and his new doggy friends 🧡
