Attachment and authenticity
I find this to be a very insightful.. Attachment and authenticity are both basic human survival needs .. we need the connection to our caregivers and we equally need the connection to our inner world as a child.. When the expression of authenticity (child inner world) jeopardizes parental connection, a child suppresses their true emotions in an effort to maintain essential attachment relationships.. Over time, this suppression of emotions can cause adults to become disconnected from themselves, meaning they lose thier authenticity in the way..

This is gold. For me this really gets into the meat of a conflict we're resolving all our lives. How to be authentic AND connected. To hear it linked to our initial survival needs puts a sharper edge on it. "At some point we found out that it was too costly for our attachment relationships to follow our gut feelings." --> And hence the blossoming of somatic work as a way to work on these imbalances.
Welcome to Practice & Philosophy
Each week I'm hosting a conversation that blends the worlds of philosophy and embodied practice. The first conversation will be November 3rd at 7pm Cairo time (check the calendar to see your time). Over the next days and weeks I'll share more about the meta-philosophy guiding this project and invite y'all to guide what comes out of it. As you enter, please introduce yourself and share some wisdom from your philosophical or spiritual travels. Tell us: 1. Your Name 2. Where you're based 3. Something you learned recently or a practice that's giving you life these days

@Martin Browne I hope we get some historical perspectives on the topics coming up! What's the general time periods you're working with? Does this include the Arthurian period you were interested in or is this a move onward from your Grail explorations?

@Rasi Govinda It's great to go back and see your psyche on a page My drawing habit was linked to a 100+ day gratitude challenge. I would write down 10 things I'm grateful for and doodle or draw something from my day. I finished that challenge and went on to other practices that were compelling at the time -- morning pages for a while, essay writing, memorizing poetry. All of these had something to add to that season of my life and the energy I was cultivating then. I love the days and weeks when I dedicate that morning-beverage-time to something that touches the soul.
