Is it possible to win regional science fairs without a mentor?

It is absolutely possible. If you can create a schedule and keep the discipline also it is a very good idea if you want to use your preferred route of learning or learn better self-taught.
At home research for ISEF
Hi! I have wanted to do research for the longest time, and I tried to apply to programs that would make my dream come true. Of course, I know that these summer programs aren’t the only way to do noteworthy research, but as it is my first time, I wanted some structure. Unfortunately, the research program I’m in now doesn’t necessarily guarantee that I can conduct authentic research that I’m passionate about. However, I wanted to know if it’s possible to do independent research at home? For context, I wanted to do cellular and molecular biological research concerning the computational relationship between chondrocytes in Scoliosis and the a new diagnosis method.

This definitely seems interesting but I would look into 1. Finding a mentor to conduct research properly on a subject you’re actually interested in, 2. Pick up some books about this topic and takes notes and write as many questions as you can (online research too of course), 3. Start preparing for some competitions where you can learn more and have experience in the field. It is very hard to do independent research as a beginner I feel like. You can try reaching out to your school or any organization that may have research programs or just ask a teacher if they would coach you on a specific project. I would ask science and English teachers for this, mainly science. I hope my advice helped!

Are two sports too much? Need help!!!
So basically I’m doing cross country first semester with some hope of eventually leveling up in the future. Cross country is only first semester and tennis is second. Is doing two sports too much? Is it necessary? Will it decrease/hurt my chances of getting into an Ivy League school?
