Circle of fifths
Open question to all musicians ! Circle of fifths, How relevant is this to violin playing? Is it for jamming and knowing what to play that sounds nice together and/or writing songs? I’m curious, as I would like to know if this chart/aid is helpful for me, and that will help me understand music better and compliment other musicians whilst playing (jamming) . Not that I’m anywhere near ready to perform in front of live audiences yet. Thank you for your time šŸ™‚

@Graham Acres Ok. So here is how I will *attempt* to explain it. I'm not great at this and might get it confused, but basically it shows the relationship between the 12 keys or pitches. Clockwise are sharps that go up, and counter clockwise are the flats that go down. It helps with understanding key signatures better, and is SUPPOSED to help with transposing and things of that nature. I just know that F has 1 sharp. And when I look at the key signature, however many sharps there are in the piece, I know it should be such and such key. Have 0 idea about the flats tbough. Haven't learned that. Hope this helps!
Congrats to the fiddlers and happy weekend
Thanks and congrats to all who got your version filmed and posted this year. I’m loving Skool so far, but one thing I’ve realized is that posts get buried a little easier. If you wanna see your fiddle friends’ performances and share some encouraging words, please click on the discussion tabs for LOTM Works in Progress and LOTM Day 2025 Tradition. And as always…. Fiddle on!!!

@Graham Acres the one that I miss AFTER I cancelled. I never even saw that one. I'm so embarassed. I scrolled all the way down and never saw that one. But, in my defense, my phone HAS been acting wonky lately and I don't see half the things that I should.
My LotM so far!!!!!!
Still a lot of work required with my timings and consistency and probably lots of other stuff haha But it’s a good marker, I have been playing this on and off for 4/5 years and it has taken some work to get to this level with the help of Jenny. Without her help and guidance it would have sounded rubbish! Thank you Jenny ā˜ŗļø

@Graham Acres it actually affects my playing greatly. But I have daily excersizes I perform to make my fingers playable. I also suffer from tendonitis in both elbows. My left goes all the way into my hand. No one knows though, because I just play through it and make sure to be super stretched out.

@Graham Acres this is ALLLLLL that I want to do. So, if it means playing through some pain, that's what I must do. My generation learned that even when we hurt, we won't accomplish what we want if we don't do it anyway. So I stretch, I work out, and I play. HOWEVER, because of my arthritis in both hands, I start out playing my scales and arpeggios. Warm up my fingers first. And thank you for saying that you wouldn't know it listening. That means that my hard work and practice are paying off!!

@Jenny O'Connor YASSSSSS! I stress over that stupid 5 note roll EVERY SINGLE TIME. It's nice to know it doesn't have to be in tune!
Hello Everyone
