The Return of Spoof? And Another Big Announcement
Today, in the midst of all the chaos of the world, I had one soothing thought: When the world is falling apart, make art. I have to admit, the thought was a relief. And then I saw the trailer for Scary Movie 6 and thought, "Hey. Maybe things are turning around. Maybe Scary Movie 6 will do what Naked Gun 4 couldn't do, and replenish support and interest in comedy." If studios are greenlighting spoofs, isn't that encouraging for all of us? And then my first thought made an entrance, because it hadn't really gone far: What a perfect time it is to make not just art but... funny art. Art that makes people laught. That uplifts and connects. I think that nowadays, comedy is a lifeline for so many people. And we're here -- in this group -- with an opportunity to create. In the midst of all this, I had another realization: All of these great comedies we love and admire... None of them were a sure bet. They were all a gamble -- a pipe dream, in a way. These guys (and gals) had an idea and they did it. Put it out there in the world. And people laughed. Then I thought of @Devin Hannesson, @Chris Dyer @Mazyar Gheiby @Russell Dean and so many more of you here, who are actively working on your comedy scripts -- in some cases starting to cast and produce your scripts! And I thought: Gosh... Wouldn't it be nice if a bunch of comedies were dropped into the world from this group? Could we measure the energy of the laughter that all our projects generate collectively? Anyway... All of that pondering did lead to something good... Well... to something we haven't done before. I brought this up to the group, and we decided that for one week (this week), we're going to drop the annual membership from $800 to $499. That's another $300 off annual!! We're doing this for two reasons: 1) To encourage our new members to join Premium. Because, that's where the magic really happens.
