Exciting stuff
Hey folks. Wanted to share something I’m super excited about. I recently got my hands on a stash of hardwood lumber, mostly oak, that my grandfather milled from trees he cut down on his farm over 20 years ago. I partnered with Buck County Drum Company, and they are going to build me a custom kit from this wood. I just made payment yesterday, and I’ll deliver the material to them in the next few weeks. I’ll have to sell off some gear to cover the cost, but I know it will be worth it. I’ll post progress here over the next few months. Here is the “before” picture of my new drums.

This is really exciting Eric, I look forward to following the process.
Swing Pattern Tempo - How fast can you go?
Hello Friends. I hope everyone is well. I have been trying to get my basic swing groove / all purpose swing pattern into the faster tempos. But Im finding I can not get it much faster than the 250 bpm point. I was under the impression the Gallop is for tempo's over 300 bpm. So Im feeling stuck in between these 2 tempos. I was wondering if anyone else is struggling with this and if so, what did you do to your technique to hit the 250 -300 bpm range on the swing pattern? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Steve.

This is a great question Steve and is something that I've personally struggled with in my own playing. Firstly, the Gallop is intended to be used once you get past around 280-300bpm. The basic swing pattern (using the train tracks) can be used up to about 180bpm. Once you get past that, then the right hand should move to more vertical movements. In my playing, tempos between around 240-300 are super difficult. I have wanted to develop this part of my playing for a while now and am thinking I should set this as 2026 project and document the process!

Welcome! Introduce yourself + share a pic of your favourite snare 🥁
Let's get to know each other! Comment below sharing where you are in the world, a photo of your favourite snare drum, and something you like to do for fun. 😊 I'll go first - I live in Melbourne Australia, my favourite snare is the Gretsch 2mm Copper 14x5 (with Kentville Kangaroo Head) and I love long-distance running 🏃‍♂️
