Paras at IEP meetings?
How do you feel about para educators coming to IEP meetings? Do you want them there?

As a teacher, I have mixed feelings. These meetings can be so long already - one more person around the table just seems to add time - and it’s not like paras make enough money to have to stay and be there…. BUT - there are many things they know that I don’t know super well. They sure have value.

We are so grateful you are here - without you - we aren't a community - it's just a space. SO - understand - YOU are the heart of this community. Some DO's - Post and ask a question. Post and share a positive thing that happened - A first down if you may . A breakthrough in the journey. Post and share a funny story. I will share a few of my faves as well. Lean on us. It's ok to respectfully vent here. It doesn't all have to make sense. Part of processing is just putting things all out there on the table. Get after it. Introduce yourself and why you joined in! Thank you for this! I am actually super happy to be here as a teacher - I am a 5th grade teacher - This is year 2 for me and I just want to connect with parents and get an understanding of what is going on in your minds and get a better grip on everything special education.

The holidays and regression -
Well, we hit the first school holiday (Halloween) and are just coming upon our next one - This is a great time to be taking data! Your data is just as valuable as the school's and having data to show if your child shows regression can be a gift. We will talk data and holiday tools at tomorrows Coffee Hour! Check out the calendar and get the session on your to do list!

@Pete King Yes -it’s moving backwards. But-it’s not necessarily GLARING info. For example - I had a student that could read 86 correct words per minute on a 4th grade passage before thanksgiving break. That was his average - We just did a timed passage yesterday and he was at 56 correct words per minute. I am going to do another one today. We will see if he is starting to get it back . But his accuracy was really low too. I need to dig in some more and see what other skills are taking a step back - and we need to see how long it takes for him to get back to where he was. IF it seems like a problem - then over Christmas break - I might want to propose something so he doesn’t loose more ground
