Resting 💎
What does it look like? When do we need it? And most interestingly, why do we resist it? Many of us fall into the trap of toxic productivity, chasing the feeling of being useful, even when it doesn’t really serve us. With so much noise, so much stimulation, and so many 'shoulds', it can feel uncomfortable to do nothing. Yet rest is not 'nothing'. It’s giving ourselves the luxury of time. Giving the mind, body and spirit time and space to digest and process. Simply by being instead of doing. On the slightly nerdy side, I love puzzle books, I just bought myself a few new ones. They draw me into a present, calm state where time seems to loosen. I also find guidance in the seasons, which I'm excited about being back in Europe! Autumn — soon knocking on the door — invites us to slow down, soften, and turn inward. So I’m curious: What does rest look like for you? Do you notice yourself resisting it in favor of productivity?

This is very timely! I am resting this weekend. I finished work and I wanted to go for a walk with my dog but thought it's been a challenging week and all I need is a nap. I am awake but still feel like just chill in bed. Thanks for the reminder. Rest is a luxury.

See you
Your time is coming—can you hear it?
Looking out of the small window where I am currently working in Nicaragua, I see a large mango tree. Some of the fruits have a lovely red color, but frustratingly, they are not ready to eat yet. By the time they drop, we will be gone, and they will be food for the ants. So, I am thinking about timing, cycles and patience. Our Western culture has been dominated by male rationality since the Greeks made breakthroughs in logic and linear thought. The Industrial Revolution cemented these values by conquering the Earth, wrapping her in steel train tracks that, for the first time, synchronized clocks across all English towns and eventually the entire world. But nature doesn’t run according to Google Calendar. The true reality is seasons and cycles. Your body, its organs, and cells listen to circadian rhythms. Our planet is guided by the sun and moon on its journey through space. Our sun itself orbits the center of the Milky Way galaxy around a supermassive black hole called, unromantically, Sagittarius A. This immense cycle, known as a galactic year, takes a mind-blowing 225–250 million Earth years to complete. Understandably, this deep-time knowledge makes mankind a bit weak at the knees, so we have clung to the safety of science and Western thinking, much like the Catholic missionaries in the 15th century held onto their rosaries and prayed when risking their lives in Africa. The truth is, we must rediscover and embrace the cycles and rhythms of life, understanding that there is a time to sow and a time to harvest. When you learn to listen for these moments in your own life, you will start to understand that what is yours will come to you—only, though, if you have cultivated the patience to listen, just as a farmer cultivates his soil before planting. You probably know well that grass will not grow faster if you pull on it, even if you chant the most powerful abundance mantras. So, instead of being a productivity monster—taking ice baths at 5 a.m. and drinking bulletproof coffee in an attempt to profit from the grind—learn to listen so you can place yourself in the right place at the right time. Listen in the stillness of meditation. During your forest walk or immersed in a downward dog during yoga. Then, with one small push, doors will open for you, paths will appear before your feet, and you will know the universe to be truly magical and utterly abundant.

"Angie, learn to listen so you can place yourself in the right place at the right time. Listen in the stillness of meditation. During your forest walk or immersed in a downward dog during yoga."
