Onions!
Also finally had success with red onions this year. I always had problems with poor germination but the variety red barron seemed to work. I don't think Kent is the best climate for onions. 🤷

@Tina Ward took me a while to get it, and even these should look a bit more streamlined at the edges. Better each year. 😄 Practice makes perfect!
Veg planner
I just found this under a pile of books! It's a little bit basic for experienced growers, but fun for kids and beginners. Mark, ever thought of producing something like this for Food Finders Hub? I'd buy one!!

Mushrooms?
Is anyone finding beautiful field mushrooms on their plots? They are loving the weather here.

I have not, but I found this stunning 'chicken of the woods' on a woodland walk the other day.

@Allys Farmer apparently even professional mycologists make mistakes!! Best avoid if you're not sure
Compost
Hello everyone. Hope you are all doing well. Excited to be part of this community. I was blessed to meet The Bowler Hat Farmer this summer at a festival and am now starting a farm with another that met there. ! ! ! ! ! We have pruned a lot and are now wondering where to put the compost heap. - Not too close to road. - Easy access. - Not too close to main walkways. Is putting it close to blackberries a good idea?

Mine is behind a hedge next to a road and there are brambles everywhere! But I don't have a huge amount of options for placement. I walk past it all the time on my way to tend to the chickens which I reckon keeps rats away as I disturb the site a lot, plus it's handy to fling chicken manure in on my way back.

@Zoe Hudson Word of caution (from experience) don't be tempted by cheap products on Amazon. The ones I got weren't silent, they emitted a vibration through the soil every 20 seconds which was quite loud and annoying, then they broke when I tried pulling them out! I didn't research further but there must be better products out there.
