Sometimes it’s forced on me, sometimes it just happens, and sometimes I seek it out.But one thing is certain: I never regret it.I’ve got a lifetime of transformation under my belt: multiple professions, including pizza restaurant waiter, clothes shop assistant, volunteer in a psychiatric unit, teacher, trainer, journalist, saxophonist, spy, translator, proofreader, editor and copywriter. Only one of the above jobs is false by the way. The red thread that runs through all of these (with the possible exception of the pizza gig)? Communication, interpretation, language.And in my latest incarnation as a premium ghostwriter (more on what that means in later posts), I’m making yet another shift, but within the same overall ballpark. Add to a life spent in over a dozen countries, dominated by a handful of religions, the study of almost twenty languages and throw in a couple of marriages (and divorces), and there’s quite a lot I’ve learned about the art and science of being protean.If you don’t know that last word, look it up. It’s well worth it and is – though somewhat obscure – definitely my favourite adjective of all time. Why this, why now The professional landscape is changing for all of us. AI, AGI, Superintelligence and the whole caboodle are already transforming things around us. And making us reassess what we’ve always done. It’s sink or swim, folks. In the short term at least. In the long term we may of course all be carried away by the flood. But for now, I’m still paddling as if I was master of all currents. Do I – do we – have any other option? For me, the path has led to ghostwriting, which is an option many, if not all, translators will want to check out at the very least. But here in Skool I'm interested in getting to know people wherever and whyever they pivot, and in networking to see where we can help and learn from each other!
