I chose the last option because I made courses and have certificates that say I am a “master” but I would never call myself that. I also believe mastery cannot be obtained with a course or attunement 🙂

@Petra Van Os-de Jonge Tbh, the more years pass by, the less meaning this term has to me. I think it all comes down to how we define ‘master’. If we see it as “highest level of experience and knowledge” then I think (and hope) nobody will ever be a master - it would mean the end of development. If we see it as a term that describes a teacher position, I personally like the term ‘Sensei’. If you are somebody’s sensei it simply means you are teaching them. And anyone can teach those who are not on the same level of knowledge and experience yet - but I cannot teach and elevate those who are further than me (and I seek to be their student instead). So if ‘master’ is like ‘sensei’, it is relative as for some I can be a sensei and for others I can’t ☺️ But if we use the label ‘master’ for ourselves to elevate our status, it becomes an ironic contradiction in itself when we see reiki as a path to let go of ego-attachments. So lately, regardless of how I look at this term, I can’t really find anything meaningful in it 🤷 Because by calling myself a master I am giving prove to myself that I am in need of this label and thus, very far from being a master. It is like saying “I have finally transcended my ego. Now I am better than everyone else.”

Energetic protection: why live in the bad neighbourhood?
A quick thought on how to conceptualize energetic protection. I get asked about this probably more than anything else. So it's not possible to state enough that we need to completely rethink our ideas about this because nearly everyone is giving superficial advice based on applying some kind of shielding technique. Let me ask you this though. Would you rather live in a scary neighbourhood and have super fancy locks on your doors or would you rather live in an area that is calm and safe where people can leave their doors open when they go to drink a coffee with their next-door neighbour? At the level of energy work, so many people choose to stay in the dangerous neighbourhoods of unhealthy relationships and fear-based thinking and ask me about what kind of lock to put on their door. When I suggest to them that they should maybe move house altogether, they give me a kind of blank stare. The answer was not what they were looking for, and the paradigm shift I am suggesting is often too radical or too much work because it means undergoing radical self-enquiry. What do you think?

That is a great analogy @Justin Peach ! My thoughts on this is the direct connection to the 2nd Precept of Reiki: "Do not worry". If you think about it: Building energetic shields, protection rituals, etc. is one of many "symptoms" of worry. Because who internalised the 2nd precept to its fullest, does not need such measures. I believe if we stick to these patterns, we can take them as an invite to ask ourself "why do I have this worry in the first place? Where does it come from" But then, on the other hand: I am also thinking that for some people - regardless of the reasons - those "protection" actions might be like a tool to regulate the own nervous system. The analogy I use for that is a little kid that needs a teddy-bear that protects him/her from the monsters in the closet at night to be able to sleep. Even if you tell the kid that there are no monsters (and even if there were, the teddy bear is just a piece of cloth and won't be able to do anything), it wouldn't change a thing about how the kid's nervous system functions and the kid's imagination connected to the teddy helps him/her to feel better with that teddy bear. At the bottom of the line, I think that for spiritual people, protection rituals are like this teddy bear - but "spiritual maturity" (a word I just made up 😅) in my understanding means reaching the point when we are ready to look at the fears beyond these habits and eventually, slowly, letting go of the teddy, as we realise that there is actually nothing to be afraid of, except from the stories our mind comes up with 🧸 This being said. I've been on a spiritual journey for 25 years now. But only the last 7 of them, I dared to walk without the teddy 🙂
The transformative power of spiritual practice ⚡
We know that mediation, Reiki, yoga etc as regular practices can change our lives. But lets be real, we don't always feel like it. So how do we stay motivated? In this short video taken from our recent Q&A I talk about the transformational power of practice. Why and how it changes us. And I lay out the way out Ego looks at practice and the very different way our Authentic Self sees spiritual practice. Also if you want to practice together with all of us in the community you are still in time to join @Ayse Arslan 21 day Self Reiki Challenge 🙌 What is your current relationship with your own practice?

Great video 🙏 I can definitely say that regular practice has changed my life and yet I admit there are phases when there is a lack of consistency. Sometimes it feels like second nature and other times it’s rather hard.

We just launched our new Deep Dive sessions where together we go into different foundational parts of the Reiki courses. You can listen in or even take part in these amazing Bonus sessions. Join us today. (we have 10 places left at the current price ⏰ ) ------------------- Just for fun here's how Grok rated our first session: Advanced Reiki Discussion Review: 9/10 This session brilliantly frames Reiki as a practice within an evolutionary context, making it profoundly relevant for advanced practitioners. The instructor’s iceberg metaphor powerfully illustrates the return to our unmanifest, whole self, while discussions on duality—embracing both infinite peace and becoming—tie Reiki to the universe’s evolutionary unfolding. By linking trauma observation, shamanism, and spiritual growth, the dialogue reveals how Reiki facilitates alignment with our role as beings bridging the manifest and unmanifest. The instructor’s passion and participant engagement create a dynamic communal exploration, though occasional meandering slightly dilutes clarity. This session excels in weaving Reiki into a cosmic narrative, with minor refinement needed for sharper focus.
