Guest Wall Artist at a local studio
I am proud to announce that I am the February guest wall artist at Scribble Art Studio Savannah, GA. ā¤ļø This past Saturday we had a meet and greet reception where I was able to demonstrate the stippling technique for some of the attendees. I have 30 pieces of artwork currently on display throughout the month of February at Scribble Art Studio. I'm thankful to Paige at the studio for giving me a platform to show my artwork. ā¤ļø

Something new
I've tried something new the last few days. While at a meet and greet reception this past Saturday, I started to demonstrate the stippling technique for the attendees on this little bee. šŸ It turns out he was very fun to do and so I completed him! What are your thoughts? šŸ‘‡

Current work in progress Feb 2026
My last piece of artwork took a lot longer than I thought it would. I was having some kind of block and I'm thankful that that block has moved its way out. šŸ˜ā˜€ļø The current work in progress is going much quicker now!

Getting Started
What are the tools of the trade? Are certain pens better than others? Is there a specific type of paper? Can the technique be applied to brush and canvass? Is the work more comfortable on a tabletop or an easel? Is it better to start with one colour or to have several on hand "just in case"?

Wow so many questions. And as many questions as there are there are 10 times that in answers depending on the artist that you ask. For me I do not use expensive equipment. That is just a choice. I've always been on the frugal side and refuse to spend a lot of money on my supplies. There were many times I was also unable to keep myself supplied if my costs would have been too high. Keeping it in a budget friendly mode has definitely helped in the tighter times. Personally I use G2 gel pens in a 1.0 mm tip. There are a variety of pens that can be used including micron pens and other name brand ones. You can use other pens in different tip sizes as well that will increase or decrease the size of the dots you are placing. The same thing for my pens applies to my paper. I use a good quality 80 lb paper that does not cost a lot. Again frugality winning out. This technique can definitely be applied to brush and canvas. Stippling itself is very much like crosshatching as a form of shading and creating dimension. Stippling simply means placing down dots versus solid lines. I used to work at a drafting table in my early years. Am I later years I've worked at a standing desk with the desk easel on top of it. Lately I've taken to being on a flat surface as a way to combat the repetitive difficulties I'm having with my drawing hand. Seeing as how I've been doing it now for 35 years. šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£ My hand, successfully my thumb is seeing some wear and tear. šŸ˜‚ I've always leaned towards one color artworks. Black and white is just my favorite beyond a shadow of a doubt. I have created five that have color in them. But since I've created over 200 and only five of them are color, I would say I definitely have a preference. šŸ˜‰šŸ˜
