The Foundation module
Well, Iโ€™m up to week 4 of the Foundations module (just did the 4.1 lesson on changing from the A string to E string). Iโ€™m still trying to master the Octave Frame,Joy to the World and Hot Cross Buns lessons from week 3. Lol! I donโ€™t want to admit Iโ€™m a slow learner BUUUTโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคช

Hey at least you're progressing. Which can only happen if you keep at it. Right @Douglas Kooienga ? I've got so much going on I can't commit to it right now. Though thanks to @Graham Acres 's suggestion I may have to make some time soon for at least just once to record myself for later reference.

@Graham Acres you are not wrong. Having it out would make it easier, currently kinda cluttered with trying to pack for a move. I will keep that in mind for the new home setup though.
Welcome violinists and friends!
Please post a photo of your practice space or just say a few words about why you picked up playing music. This group is about adult learning in addition to violin, so all instruments welcome!

My life story haha more than a few words: We had an upright piano growing up. My brother and I would "play" with it and try to recreate the songs from the radio that we liked. Mom decided she needed to do something to foster our interest and secured us a music teacher for piano lessons. A few years passed and we'd had enough. But Mom insisted we continue until highschool. Which meant I would have two more years of lessons than my brother. ๐Ÿ˜” We didn't mind the lessons at first but they were never what we wanted. They never helped us learn how to play the songs we wanted to play. You know, without sheet music. Somehow, this was never properly understood by Mom. During this time of piano lessons my school offered violin lessons. I assume the violin needed renting but I never got any real info there. Only Mom said she didn't want to hear the screeching during practice. So I never took violin lessons. During highschool my parents celebrated their 25th anniversary, and they hosted a party where the son of one of Mom's and Dad's friends played his violin! Needless to say I had mixed feelings. I needed to forgive Mom for denying me the honor of playing for their celebration. (Since I wasn't allowed to learn.) I taught my Aunt how to play the piano as I was happy to give her the basics. Then I encouraged her to take lessons from our family friend who gave lessons for a living. I used to help him set up for his student recitals. As my parents aged we moved to a house we found together. Eventually, I bought myself a violin and started learning from YouTube. I learned that Dad never knew I wanted to learn or he would have agreed to it as he also wanted to learn. So we kind of did a little together. But timing for learning was hard and we both stopped. I did take my violin to the park nearby, which was often empty, to practice. I also would practice at a car park on the side of the road near a hiking/fishing area. If no one was around. ๐Ÿ˜ I've yet to properly learn to play.

@Jenny O'Connor haha had to look back at what I'd written ๐Ÿ˜‚ I had to stop before adding my kids into it. I'm so happy that my kids are into music maybe even more than I am. ๐Ÿ˜Š They've never taken lessons other than one choosing a guitar class in highschool.
