My space and what I make in it
Hello all! Just thought I would share: 1. A photo of my workspace. Notice the 55" TV on the left which serves as my work monitor and as my telemprompter when I record scripts. The webcam is directly in front of the desk on a stand (with pile of drums stored between TV and webcam...) and the bookcase behind me serves as my background when on camera. 2. What the camera sees when I'm on the podcast that pays my bills 3. I briefly used the same shot in our latest music video. That shot serves as the cover image. Living proof the space doesn't have to be perfect to be productive. As long as what the camera sees is what's intended, I'm good! Challenges: 1. The desk is awesome for the generous desktop space... but the desk isn't tall enough. I need to figure out an ingenious way to raise it so my knees comfortably fit under 2. Piles of paperwork everywhere need to be sorted, actioned, and filed!! 🤣

@Stuart Baulk yep, between my paid work, volunteering, and our band, much of what I do is on camera, and this is the space where most of that happens. (Actually *playing* music happens in another room however. So I have two production rooms!) The items in and around the bookcase are obviously very unique to me (can you tell I love sunflowers?!) It includes gifts and cards from loved ones, artwork (both my own and pieces from talented friends), memories... I sometimes add or remove things as new mementos arrive. That's what I choose to convey in any of the settings where I use this space: me, rather than something professional/corporate and BORING. I've found what's in shot can definitely impact engagement. In a previous setup I had a guitar or bass hanging on the wall, in shot next to me, and would get comments on it all the time. The current rental house doesn't lend itself to hanging guitars.

Some studio Output
A tiny bit of making, rather than talking about making. This is a short Trackvis clip for 'Meditation of the Mantis' by Baulk at the Möön. One of the things I want Room to Record to show more of is the actual output that comes from having a space and workflow that works. Not just rooms, gear and productivity theories, but the songs, videos and weird little things that eventually escape from them.

The first Room to Record video is live
Today I stopped planning the video workflow and recorded the first proper Room to Record video. It is Version 1. I am still learning DaVinci Resolve, refining the camera setup, working on my delivery, and figuring out how music, samples, images, sound effects and stranger ideas will become part of the style. But it exists, it is finished, and it is public. In this first video, I explain what Room to Record is and why building a practical creative space is about more than buying gear.
