💰 What Comes First: Growth or Profit?
I was reading Profit First today, and one part really made me stop and think. The author talks about how, as entrepreneurs, we often think: grow, grow, grow… and then the profit will come. More clients, more sales, a bigger business, and then we’ll make money. So I got curious and wanted to ask everyone here: When you think about becoming a successful dispatcher, what comes to your mind first? A) Building a big dispatching business, more carriers, more trucks, maybe eventually hiring a team, believing that the bigger the business gets, the more money you’ll make. B) Making the business profitable first, even if you start with only one or two carriers, learning how to control expenses, price your service correctly and actually keep a profit before focusing on getting bigger. C) A little bit of both, growing the business and building profitability at the same time. I’m really curious to hear everyone’s perspective. What comes first for you: growth or profit? And why? 👀

My perspective is B first, then C. In a dispatching business, I wouldn’t chase a large number of carriers before knowing that the business actually makes money. One or two good carriers can teach you a lot: how to price your service, manage expenses, track revenue, understand your margins, and build systems. Once you have a profitable model, then growth becomes much safer. You can add carriers without simply creating more work and expenses. The key lesson from Profit First is essentially: revenue is not profit. A business can look busy and successful while the owner isn't actually keeping much money. So if you're building your dispatching business, I'd think about it this way: Profitability → repeatable system → controlled growth → team/scale. And honestly, I think that mindset could save you from one of the biggest mistakes new entrepreneurs make: building a bigger business instead of building a better business.
Personal or Business Number for Dispatching?
You guys know what I was just thinking? Ever since I opened my trucking LLC, I’ve received hundreds of calls. Now I’m wondering… could one of those hundreds of calls have been one of you trying to land your first carrier? 😂 Do you guys use your personal number or a separate business number for dispatching?https://www.goldenroute.llc/

Future
In 1 year from now, what do you see yourself reminiscing on? I see myself reminiscing on how nervous I anm now and my set up. I want to be able to look back at my YouTube videos and be proud of myself. I’m going to take in my unofficial 2026 office setting, my 2026 mindset, and my 2026 fears.

@Carrie Baty I'm heading that direction myself. With persistence, Gods blessings, Dispaters University guidance 🙏 ✨️ I will be looking back and reminiscing on all this too.

I end up getting little parts that I missed or didn't understand. Still in the process of listening to the classroom videos.
