Hey Nevyl, here’s what worked for me: For the first clients, go where the people already are. Local events, small businesses, community groups. Message them directly, show your work, and offer to help (even free at first if needed) just to build portfolio + trust. Pricing: give people 2–3 packages instead of one price. Start with a small, mid, and high option. Most will pick the middle or top one. As your portfolio grows, keep raising the floor price and drop the cheapest one. Networking: don’t overthink it. Join coworking spaces, business events, or just talk to people when you’re shooting somewhere. Post your work online so people actually see what you do. People hire people they know and trust. Biggest mindset shift: stop thinking like “just a photographer.” Think like a business owner. Marketing, pricing, and client experience matter as much as the photos themselves. That’s what gets you from random $200 gigs to consistent $5K months. Hope that helps. Don´t hesitate to ask again if anything´s unclear or you need something else 🤝

(repost in reply to advice) Thanks, sorry for the late reply, I finished the course, insane value I have to say, thank you for all the advice, I set up a LinkedIn and plan to update it as soon as possible, I plan to try and secure work at the church I volunteer at, (kingsgate community church Peterborough) you should check it out, they have a big media team and often hold events, I think this is a good place to start with my portfolio, I want to ask another question this time specifically about business events, and weddings, obviously never having worked, I have very limited connections to anyone who might be holding businesses events, and with weddings, nobody I know closely is at the age where they would need a wedding photographer, what are the ways I can reach out to these people and secure clients even for free work initially Also, you recommend having a profile picture of yourself on LinkedIn, however I've found in a lot of things I do my age becomes a consideration for serious customers, would you still recommend having my face as my profile picture considering it may be a deterrent to people looking for my service, if not, what would you recommend instead

@Arnel Acquaye I love the energy you bring, his is exactly what will help you grow fast. On the profile picture: 100% keep your face on there. People buy from people, and trust starts with being visible. Yes, being young can feel like a challenge, but it doesn’t help to hide from it. Instead, embrace it and use it as your strength. You probably understand the social media landscape way better than someone who’s 50. Show that you’re reliable, professional, and easy to work with, and people will stop caring about your age completely. One of the best photographers I know just turned 16, and his clients love him for his young energy and drive. As for finding your first clients, even for free: go where the clients already are. For weddings, look at Facebook groups for people getting married in 2026, wedding planner companies, local community pages, or even physical events at your church or school. For business events, look at local business associations, networking groups, or LinkedIn pages. Start reaching out with a friendly message offering your help for free or at an affordable rate to build your portfolio. You can even use ChatGPT to help you write these messages so they come across professionally. And finally, start posting your work and journey online, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, whatever you’re comfortable with. The more you share, the more people see you as “the guy with the camera,” and opportunities will start coming to you 🤝
Getting your first clients
Hi, my name is Arnel Acquaye, I'm 16 living in the UK, I want to make a living for myself and want to make money on my own terms, the thought of a 9-5 has never appealed to me, my parents were immigrants from west Africa so I want to make a change in my family, im trying to get started making money through photography and videography, but I don't know how to generate my first leads and get my first client wether free or payed work, what would be the method you recommend and how would you go about it at my age as I find that is often a problem.

@Arnel Acquaye, first off huge respect! At 16 you’re already thinking bigger than most people twice your age. That hunger and clarity is going to take you far. Here’s my best advice: start with the Lensprofit Masterclass inside this group. It’ll give you the foundation I wish I had when I was starting out. How to find clients, price properly, and think like a business owner. Watch that first. From there, here’s a simple step-by-step you can start doing right away: Get experience (even free/affordable at first): Don’t be afraid to reach out directly to businesses, events, or people you already know and ask if you can shoot for them. The money will come, firsts it’s about building confidence and a portfolio. Focus where there’s money: Weddings, bigger events, and businesses/brands (not just friends who want free photos). These clients have budgets and will value your work. Network in-person: Say yes to opportunities at school, community events, sports clubs, local offices, etc. Talk to people, offer your help, and start getting known as “the photo/video guy.” Build your personal brand online: Use Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, even Facebook. Share your best work, share your process, and let people see you. Clients don’t just hire skill, they hire people they trust. Know when to start charging: Once you’ve built a bit of a portfolio and confidence, start charging real prices. It’s important to have the courage to value yourself, even when you’re young. I started out with no clients and no roadmap, and at 19 I went full-time. It wasn’t easy, but following these exact steps is what helped me build a career and travel the world with my camera. How to deal with ignoring client
I want to see how to deal with clients who ignores you when you tell him/her your price and he/she sees it a bit higher than their budget and replies you back one week to or a day to the event and says that he/she has got someone else. This is the most challenging situation for me am undergoing

Ah I get this 100%, it’s happened to me as well. What I learned is that most of the time this happens because we don’t have a clear sales system. If you just send over your price in a message, the client has nothing to compare it to, so if it feels “too high,” they’ll usually just move on. Instead, try to get them on a quick video call (or in person if possible). Present them 3 different packages (low, mid, high) so they have options. Walk through the value of each one, and have a back-and-forth conversation until you find something that fits their budget and your standards. This way, they see you as a professional with solutions, not just a random price tag. I’ll definitely talk more about this in the group soon, but I hope that helps 🤝🏼
