1 contribution to Lessons in Self Publishing
Most authors don’t struggle with writing, they struggle with direction.
When I first started my journey in the digital space, I assumed success was just about working harder and learning everything on my own. But I quickly realized the real challenge wasn’t effort; it was knowing what actually matters and what to focus on at each stage. What changed things for me was getting the right guidance at the right time. It helped me avoid unnecessary mistakes, simplify my process, and actually start seeing progress instead of just staying busy. That’s why communities like Lessons in Self Publishing are valuable, because growth becomes faster when people openly share what they’re learning and what they’re struggling with. So I’d like to open it up: What stage are you currently at in your self-publishing journey, writing, publishing, or promoting? And what’s the one area you feel you need the most help with right now? It could be writing structure, getting visibility, publishing steps, or even staying consistent. Don’t hesitate to share your struggles here; often, the right answer comes from someone who has already been through it. Drop your thoughts below

@Stacy Arnold Yeah, you’re honestly right about that. That’s exactly what I was thinking too newsletters, email lists, and having one personal space really matter long term. Relying only on Instagram or third-party platforms feels risky because you don’t really own the audience there. I’ve tried explaining this to a few authors recently Like, with your own site you can collect emails, build a real community, organize your books properly, and stay connected with readers directly instead of depending completely on algorithms. But surprisingly a lot of people still don’t really see the value yet. By the way @Samtech Wander what are you currently working on? Always love hearing about other people’s projects 👀

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I noticed something while talking to a few authors recently 👀 A lot of writers mainly sell through third-party platforms or rely only on social media for their presence. But personally, I genuinely feel authors deserve their own personal space, a place where all their books, story, journey, updates, and personality can live together instead of being scattered everywhere. I made this concept last week and honestly wanted real opinions from people here. Do you guys think this actually matters for authors today, or do readers mostly not care anymore? Would genuinely appreciate your advice :)
