Hey team! I finished the Why Attunement Works series, Dragon Yoga, and Somatic Attunement and am caught up on all of our videos. Below I attached my thoughts on those 3 modules. I am so excited about Attunement because: 1. The newtonian model of healing is outdated, and this is pushing us towards a better healing environment across a variety of sectors in a very approachable way. 2. I would love to heal my own family dynamics, and understanding my role in all of it will help me to do so. 3. Teaching this to other families is going to heal the relationships within the family, but also to themselves, which is a piece I think a lot of people are missing 3 things I learned: 1. How anger isn’t a ‘bad’ thing that should be suppressed, but rather it’s something that indicates severe misalignment that should be dealt with once both parties are in a safe, non-reactionary space. 2. The first place to look when a child is being reactive, is to the parents; are they in an attuned environment, and what does their relational structure look like (current and retrospectively) then taking it one step further: what are their teachers, coaches, friends families like? 3. There cannot be intimacy within a relationship when you are in a parentified structure. If one partner is on the same level as their child, and the other partner has to nurture both without the support of their partner, of course there cant be intimacy. It seems so obvious, but it wasn’t until seeing the actual structure and flow of nurturance that it clicked for me. I think a lot of people struggle with this in their relationships, but don’t know that this is what it is. Here’s a question about Attunement I have for the community: How would someone heal their family of origin if they’ve had a parent pass. And say they had a rough relationship with that parent, how would they heal that piece? 3 things I felt in my body with dragon yoga: 1. More playful 2. Less anxious 3. More connected to Kaali Maa

My mum has passed and although she did struggle I do have a lot of compassion for her - she didn’t have the support she needed to be the parent I’m sure she really wanted to be. I’m grateful that I’m able to work on healing my nervous system so I can be more present for my kids and extended family/friends. It’s a long process I think but this programme is definitely helping to accelerate it!
Questions!
Hey everyone! I won't see you tonight as it is my bedtime! But I will see you all next Saturday. I will catch up on the recordings though. I am going to copy and paste my answers to the questions below. I would love to know what each of you has said for the advice you would give to parents. I am putting them way down in the post because I know people will want to do their own before seeing mine! I am loving the programme so far, I was with a close friend yesterday who has been a social worker, senior social worker, IRO (Independent review officer for looked after children), complaints invigilator for councils and LADO (local authority designated officer - she gets to decide if people are ever allowed to work with children again if there has been a safeguarding issue). and she also trains people on safeguarding. Anyway... she had a really traumatic upbringing and knew her mum was (is) narcissistic but I was able to talk to her about the different types of parental narcissism and the impacts each can have on the children. It was no surprise to realise her Mum is victim narcissist which probably explains why we are so close in a way because we understand the impact that can have on us well into our lives (she is 57). I am also loving the way you can use the language with people who are alongside you (in my case my family members) as ways of expressing needs without it being taken as personal or critical so I think once you have that shared vocabulary it makes everything so much easier! In terms of my niche I am already seeing that a session/webinar on structure, flow and different types of narcissism would be really good for foster parents and for care experienced young people. The first pillar of my offer is "Understand" (yourself and others) and I can see how it would slot right into that! Anyway, thanks Adena you are truly a force of nature, and thanks to everyone in this group I am really grateful to be here with you all at this momentous point in time.

Today I had a very interesting conversation with a prominent care leaver, foster parent, artist and podcaster (foster care uncovered). She said local authorities don’t actually want foster parents to be confident because then they’re outspoken and they don’t like that. She speaks to foster carers day in day out. Also, in another development, I’ve been talking to care leavers and they also NEED support. I’m looking at getting my programme accredited in the uk, so researching that at the moment! But really interesting that authorities want lovely compliant homely foster carers who don’t challenge them.. well… that’s definitely not my style so it’s made me even more determined!

I am almost done watching the trainings inside the classroom. Here are a few of my reflections: Why I’m excited about attunement training: 1. 1. I’ll deepen my understanding of relational health and have an opportunity to work toward healing and reconciliation within my family of origin. 2. I’ll learn the TIARA approach and bring those skills to the individuals and families I support as a burnout recovery advisor. 3. I’ll be better equipped to help providers attune to their own bodies and environments, as well as to the people in their care. Three things I’ve learned from the videos so far: 1. To depersonalize a reactive moment by decoding what is happening and responding with care. (depersonalize, decode, nurture) 2. To recognize disconnection in the moment and practice nervous system regulation practices 3. That healing my relationship with my former spouse may support greater balance in masculine and feminine dynamics, creating more room for growth and healing.
