References in Character Design Portfolio
Hello! I've been working on trying to build a character design portfolio. I was wondering if it's a good idea to put in my reference images or not? (since most professional portfolios don't seem to do that)

I'm by no means an expert, but as someone who spent *a lot* of time discussing portfolio presentations with classmates and teachers as we were working on our portfolios, there are no strict right or wrong answers. But, I would say that unless you feel like the refereces are very important to showcase something specific, there's no need to include them since your design is what matters!
Monthly Challenge: April 18th - May 18th
The Cocoon Carer is supposed to be a merchant NPC where he breeds all types of butterfly cocoons which the player can buy which, when they hatch, lend the player different types of buffs, powers and attacks. I had a lot of fun with designing this character and feel like the process was very enjoyable too when I just let it be a little ''ugly'' at the start and not over work it. Hope you all enjoy and let me know what you think! πŸ›

I really enjoy the proportions on this! How small the head is and how big the front most arm are!

πŸ•πŸŒ» Here’s my entry for this month's challenge for the character design challenge. The porcelain parade conductor is an enchanted doll crafted from fine china and silk by a curious sorcerer toymaker. With a wave of her baton, the conductor can manipulate bodies of water into a marching band of musicians and performers at will, bringing magic and life to the cities of small creatures and critters alike. The conductor’s cheerful leadership and heart of gold have regarded her as a memorable guest throughout every performance in mystical maritime towns. Most of my design ideas for these images and my theme are connected to another art challenge I wanted to try, centered around the theme of "parade." My immediate impression from these photos conveyed a sense of elegance that I wanted to incorporate into clothing items, and I experimented with various styles of hats, skirts, and dresses. I also aimed to explore incorporating different textures, patterns, and shapes into various parts of the outfits. I found it enjoyable to join in on this exercise again to help practice thinking of small ideas and practicing some new art in between being busy with other things. ^ ^
