I was listening to a webinar today from the Culture Intelligence Center. Two points were made that really resonated with me. 1) People sometimes say that we have EQ emotional intelligence, so why do we need CQ? The panel was talking about how EQ is formed within your culture. You learn how to be emotionally intelligent with the people around you especially during your formative years. CQ, on the other hand, takes people intelligence to a whole other level — not just being intelligent about how you relate to your own, but with how you relate to vastly different cultures that you encounter. 2) Cultural intelligence work is hard. It can be exhausting, and people can want to throw in the towel. The panel on the webinar talked about how important community is in this work… to be able to share experiences, encourage one another, and grow as we build bridges. That 2nd point sounds like a plug for our community here! We’re so glad to have this growing community of people doing the work. Let’s share our cultural intelligence struggles. Let’s lean on each other for encouragement. Our next Coffee & Cultural Intelligence hour is this Thursday 5/14 at 3pm CT. Don’t do this work alone!
