Hi, I just read this now. Can you share your OS type (Linux/macOS/Windows)? I will look into it personally. And quickly.
Agent Zero v2.12 is out, with a Launcher update
File browser rebuilt: The File browser now has directory trees, list and icon views, sorting preferences, and its own Settings category. The Editor unifies text and code editing with syntax highlighting, line numbers, search, Markdown previews, and protection against conflicting saves. Remote file access: Browse and edit folders exposed by connected A0 CLI and Launcher instances directly from the Web UI, with granular permission checks. Transfers are hardened with streaming, integrity checks, atomic writes, configurable limits, and safe archive handling. Beta, feedback wanted - A0 Tag: With an Agent Zero instance open in a Launcher tab, press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Enter and ask A0 to do anything on your computer from the app you are in. It can also type text directly in place, currently in text editors, email clients, and custom fields. Credential fields are intentionally not supported for security reasons. Tell us what works and what does not. Browser and Desktop: Safari host-browser setup on macOS, Browser tabs that no longer get stuck loading, faster Browser and Desktop startup, and a draggable canvas rail that remembers its position with per-panel desktop and mobile visibility. Security: Fixed WhatsApp media path traversal, Telegram webhook authentication bypass, and IMAP sender-whitelist parsing bypass. If you use these integrations, please update. How to update CLI: open a terminal and type 'a0 update' Web UI: open Settings -> Check for updates -> Review update Launcher: close and reopen the app, then click the Update button New here? @Harald Pichler Hi, looking into the issue. Thanks for reporting!
Is this an Agent Zero bug using local models
From hours of troubleshooting, I used 3 different configs to test. "The Verdict: You proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is an Agent Zero bug with how it handles local/utility model API keys in version 2.12. It's totally ignoring what you type in the settings UI and forcing that broken placeholder string. Since the UI won't let you clear its localStorage through devtools, your two options are: 1. The Nuke: Quit Agent Zero entirely, delete or move ~/Library/Application Support/a0-launcher to force the app to rebuild its cache from scratch, and type the settings in fresh. 2. 3. The Workaround (Config 1): Just stick with Main and Utility on OpenRouter and Embedding on LM Studio. For whatever reason, A0's spaghetti code manages to pass the OpenRouter keys correctly without choking on the §§secret bug. I've already updated your file with a note that Config 3 is broken by an A0 state bug, and Config 1 is the officially supported path. You successfully chased the ghost out of the machine. It's a bug in their app, not your homelab. I'm glad to help the Agent Zero group. They only need to reach out to me....

@Mike Doolittle Hi and thanks a lot for spending the time testing and reporting this. The bug is in v2.12, and makes dummy keys providers use the placeholder that took precedence over real keys entered in Settings. A fix is now prepared and tested for LM Studio, llama.cpp, oMLX, and vLLM, including setups that don't require a key like OAuth connections. It's on ready branch for now, and it'll be released during this week. For the Launcher data, I haven't found evidence or being able to reproduce. I'd like to confirm whether this fix covers your exact problem. Let me know. Local models are hard to set-up, but definitely supported, so switching both to OpenRouter is not a requirement.
Agent Zero v2.11 is out - The speed release, and a major Launcher update
This is the speed release, with some serious resilience work underneath. We halved the time between your prompt and the first token in Agent Zero. In the Launcher, startup time is also cut in half, and saving settings and Instance operations are about 30x faster. Context Doctor: A brilliant community contribution that brings a new recovery layer that repairs malformed tool-call JSON and recovers from empty, repeated, or misformatted model responses. If you run small local models or providers that occasionally misbehave, your runs stop derailing. Context-window indicator: You can now see live token usage, remaining context space, provider-reported costs, cache hits, and generation updates while the agent works. No more guessing what a run costs or when compaction will kick in. Vision sidecar: Another community contribution. Configure a separate vision model alongside your main model. Perfect when your favorite text model has no vision support, or when you want a cheaper model handling images. Also in Core: - The WebUI is faster and steadier during high-rate streaming with progressive Markdown and LaTeX rendering. - Transports now default to Chat Completions, which makes life easier for plugin developers bringing in new providers. - The interactive Browser gets configurable keyboard layouts with better macOS Option and AltGr handling. CLI: - WebSocket recovery keeps running through long outages with safe ownership transfer during reconnects, host changes, and shutdown. - Authorized Chrome/CDP sessions are more stable with persistent browser identities. - Now you get terminal-native ready notifications when TUI or headless runs complete. Launcher: - Startup, Versions, Settings, and Instance operations reuse current data, so everything feels instant while explicit refreshes stay authoritative. - There is a brand new Advanced section for power users: a file-first workspace for Dockerfiles and Compose files with fixed build, run, and teardown actions. - Running local Instances get a native Restart that waits for the Agent Zero UI to be ready.

@Türker Tunali Thanks, yeah that’s very nice to have, especially if you’re used to draft prompts and come back later like me :) Your Mac will probably run smoother during generation after our changes to this last version.
Catastrophic error with A0
Hi, I am experiencing a catastrophic error with A0. I keep getting an error 'A0: Message misformat, no valid tool request found.' When I try to fix the error, it disconnects and I get a new error message ' backend disconnected and Token 'B' and ' bad gateway' JSON not valid. Then the entire A0 UI stops working. I restart my Docker container, but the error still persists. Can anyone help, please?

Hi, I just saw your message. We have a new plugin called Context Doctor that has been bundled into the Core of Agent Zero just yesterday. We're releasing v2.11 of A0, so I look forward for you to test it. There, both misformats and disconnections saw many, many improvements. These errors didn't go unnoticed. Thank you if you want to give it a chance. If you want to start with a workaround instead of waiting for tomorrow, you can go in the Plugin Hub and install the "Context Doctor" plugin.
