Agent Zero VS Code Extension
Today, I want to highlight an incredible contribution from our community member in Discord, Nick Baker. He created a VS Code Extension that registers Agent Zero as a 'Language Model Provider'. It means he can open a native VS Code Chat and select 'Agent Zero' from the dropdown, just like you would select GPT or Claude and without the hassle of setting up the A2A protocol. This is a perfect example of extending the ecosystem.

Customizing prompts in Agent Zero 🎨🖌️
We are working on the Subordinate Agents Editor, that will allow you to override default prompts and give custom instructions/knowledge to specialized AI agents right away, from the UI, just like you do with Projects. Meanwhile, use the `a0/agents/` directory as your reference, and let's go through the creation of a new agent. Easy way: ask A0 to look into a0/agents and walk you through the creation of your new set of prompts for the new agent. But let's see how it works internally. For example, look at `a0/agents/hacker/prompts`: notice how it overrides the environment and the main role of the agent with `agent.system.main.environment.md` and `agent.system.main.role.md`. 1 - Open the A0 File Browser 2 - In `a0/prompts` you’ll find all the default framework prompts. 3 - These cover every step of the pipeline, including things like the summarization prompt used when a chat gets too long. All of these can be customized if needed. 4 - Take your time to review what you actually want to override or edit, for instance, the communication prompt if you want the agent to output custom fields after “Thoughts” or to change its thinking style, or again the role prompt to make it more robot-like "Executing task... Running code" in a concise way without conversational text. 5 - Copy only the files you intend to modify into a0/agents/your-agent/prompts/, and edit them there. Important: do not copy the entire a0/prompts folder into a0/agents/your-agent/prompts/. You don’t need all prompts whatever your use case is, because any file not present in your agent folder will fall back to the framework default. 6 - Once the new folder is created, your agent automatically appears in the Settings UI (first tab). The folder name becomes the agent name.

@Frank Hurt It's great that you found it at this stage. That’s pretty much why I started contributing too. Agent Zero felt like something new and has a level of architectural freedom that I hadn’t really seen elsewhere. Once it clicks, it’s hard to go back 🙂

@Scott Graham Thanks so much for taking the opportunity. Now things are smoother for me. We can bring great value to the AI world, not just A0.
User Takeover for Captchas & Logins
Are you guys planning on adding 'User Takeover for Captchas & Logins' any time soon? it was mentioned once in your '8/20/2025 - Special Guest, Founder of Browser Use' talk and i just wanna know what happening because it seems really useful.

Hello! We’re moving in the direction of replacing the existing browser tool entirely. The first step is a much more reliable and better-integrated browser agent on its own. One of the main limitations of the current implementation is that the Browser Agent has a very narrow communication channel with the main Agent, so A0 many times doesn't know that the browser agent is stuck in a loop, for example. After that, the second phase is to introduce a container-level browser hypervisor, which would allow user takeover for things like captchas, logins, or similar steps by temporarily giving control of the live browser session running inside the Linux container. So it’s being approached as a deeper architectural change. The goal is to have a browser tool that’s on the same level as the rest of the toolset.
Sneak peek of the A0 Launcher
Agent Zero runs on Docker, that's the engine. But you shouldn't need to be a mechanic just to drive the car. Sneak peek at the upcoming A0 Launcher. One unified app to manage your instance, updates, and config. Docker stays under the hood, where it belongs.

@Frank Hurt Good question. The launcher is primarily intended for desktop environments (Windows, macOS, Linux with a GUI). It’s an Electron app, so it assumes a local UI. For headless / cloud / pure CLI installations (VMs, servers, VPS, etc.), the current Docker + CLI flow still applies. The goal is to lower the barrier for local and desktop users, while keeping server and CLI setups fully supported as they are today. That said, you gave me a nice idea around community scripts or helpers to make server setups even smoother 😊

@Frank Hurt It’s clear that server/always-on setups shouldn’t have this level of friction, especially for builders or small teams. Even without introducing multi-tenancy to have multiple users in the same A0 instance, there’s a lot of room to simplify how hosted instances are deployed and managed. One concrete direction could be predefined VM + Docker deployments (e.g. on GCP or AWS) to get a A0 instance online with minimal setup. Even before cloud integrations, install and bootstrap scripts would already remove a lot of friction. One thing I personally really like about A0 is its ability to self-improve via natural language. You can literally ask the agent to review its own prompts and adjust behavior accordingly (just don’t do this with tool prompts 😁).
🎉 Agent Zero is in the Top 20 on OpenRouter
If you're new to A0 and didn't know this was possible: yes, you can run it entirely for free! Agent Zero is now one of the most-used frameworks on the platform. 1.22B tokens processed this week. But the real win is that 215M of those tokens were on Grok 4.1 Fast, a completely free model. That means people are running AI agents for $0. No subscriptions, just Agent Zero + OpenRouter's free tier. [Agent Zero Setup Guide]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5v5Kjx51hs [OpenRouter Free Models list]: https://openrouter.ai/models/?q=free
