🍓 Academy Week 5: Do HARD Things [pinned post]
Replay is up in the Classroom. Make sure you comment your answers in this post as you go thru the recording so I know what you're thinking. Much easier to provide feedback!! Look, so far we've covered: ✅ Goal Setting (the in-depth version) ✅ Michael Phelps breathing trick ✅ Visualization ✅ Basic nutrition for swimmers ✅ Desired identity statement ✅ You've gathered A LOT of evidence that supports your new identity 🔥 Keep the momentum going, 5 more weeks until we know who wins a brand new race suit of your choice!!! More and more fire badges are starting to appear I love it!! In today's training we have time for questions to make sure we're not leaving anybody behind. After that, we do a little magic together ok? It's gonna be workshop-style which means I'll ask you a series of questions that you can just answer in the comments. And at the end, you'll all have a massive done-and-ready improvement for this week. - No breakout rooms - No having to speak in front of everyone else ☺️

I’m the kind of swimmer who fuels her mind, body and soul like a pro!! 1. I found my foam roller ready for tomorrow 2. Drank lots of electrolytes 3. Got a lot of college work completed to get ahead for the week 4. Had a really long sleep overnight as I had a migraine but i woke up feeling much better - rest is often the answer! 5. Had a tasty curry that my sister made as she’s back from uni for the weekend Hydration = 7 Nutrition = 7 Visualisation - going to visualise 100 back
Midmar mile open water swim
In South Africa every year the midmar mile is swum, the biggest open water swim in the world, Kiersten had never done it and did it for the first time today, wow, I wasnt there as she did it with her school but she was amazing, big waves due to the wind, however she did 1mile or 1.6km in 23.48 minutes, she even surprised herself, her goal was a sub 25 and she did it....so here is to swimming midmar mile every year from now on, now we concentrate on open water nationals start of March and SANJ end of March,

well done 👏🙌
First weekend of counties
I couldn't decide which category to put this in since it had a mix of both, anyway I swam 2 races this weekend, 1 each day which were: 50 Fly, 50 Back. 50 Fly: 30.09, this one made me confused since I should go 29 but what made it the 30 makes sense, basically my kicks during the stroke came too much from the knees which added a lot of drag and overall lack of speed. My coach said that the intensity was good the whole way but that one thing ruined it. This most likely also contributes to why I feel like I cant hold the fly as well as I usually do. This is a good thing aswell since that would mean that if I fix that one little problem I can go those better times. 50 Back: 31.53, PB but not a good one in my opinion. Similar to the fly, one little thing made me lose a lot of speed, and the awesome thing was that its not my endurance or stroke rate dropping off or anything like that, but the fact that I was going into both lane ropes 😂 like a snake🐍. I dont know why this was but I'm guessing that its either the London aquatics centre ceiling (you can only understand if you've swam backstroke there) or just the fact my technique started to degrade as I swam the race because most of the time I feel quite out of control swimming the 50 back. This was also mentioned by my coach that as I swam the 50 my catch started getting better, which is funny. So yeah thats my whole review of this weekend, I would see it as a win and learning.

Well done 👏
First weekend of counties
This weekend was the first weekend of our three weekend long counties! I had 200 back and went a 2.30.37, which is a half a second pb from a time I set 2 weeks ago!! I then made it into the final and added time on due to fatigue as we have been training through and not tapering as it’s not a key meet, but I’m still proud of myself for keeping going and taking on board improvements and positives that I got from the weekend, with my coach reassuring me that if he’s not worried then I shouldn’t be 😂. I also had lots of fun with my new teammates which added lots of positivity to the day 💕
Race day
So today I did 400 Im never did such a bad race i felt like vomiting and like it was the first time swimming it even tho i felt amazing and not anxiuos at all.
