Sketchbook Portrait
My first attempt at an oil portrait—not exactly what I hoped for, but every stroke feels like a step forward.

What’s Harder In Your Opinion ?
Recently, @Chris Legaspi, @Gimmel Goffe and I had a really interesting conversation and Drawing vs Painting. I’m in the belief that personally, drawing and linework is much more difficult than painting. Where describing form In line is extremely difficult for me because my brain starts drawing my ideas of what I’m looking at, instead of what’s actually going on. As opposed to painting, I’m forced to see edge and value and describe it as such. So what do you guys think? Is line drawing harder or easier than painting in your experience?

I see what you’re saying. Painting might be an easier way to get to how light really works on an object rather than relying on the symbols/cartoons/etc that we have to unlearn to draw realistically. I just started painting, but the way I’m learning to approach a subject in paint is more focused on how the light looks than just the outline of the thing, which I tend towards in drawing. But picking up a pencil and drawing is more natural for most of us. Most kids grow up doing that. So I think painting is harder to get into, but the painting approach/tools might help you get an image the way you want it easier once you start to know what you are doing? 🙃

Rijksmuseum Amsterdam 🫶🏻
Today i went to the Rijksmuseum with my 15 year old son. We are very lucky to be able to visit several great museums in and around Amsterdam. The Rijksmuseum is my favorite. I really enjoyed being there together, talking about what we love in the museum. Today I saw a number of wonderful statues, catching light at interesting angles. And of course my favorite painting of all (and that’s saying something in a place with several rembrandts, von goghs, Vermeers, well you get the drift): Benares by Marius Bauer. Gets better every time I see it. ❤️

Win or No win ? 😁😭 (Arrived)
So I made it into the Royal Portrait Academy Exhibition at Hull Gallery. And getting the drawing over there was a real struggle. My museum glass was damaged. So i tried to get a new one. The gallery was closed because of illness and i had to do many phonecalls. And I am on the country so there was no alternative. So I got one on Amazon which took forever to arrive and it did just in time. Then the passepartout they send me was too small. Another one would have taken too long. So I had to cut one myself. Only had strathmore bristol for that. Then the DHL service here was full with schoolkids because they where buying all their new books there. I waited forever. Then their computer would not take the adress in UK. Until we gave up and I drove to another DHL Packing station. The Computer also did not take it. Then it turned out that express costs more than a hundred bucks and the computer HAS to take the adress for that. So i chose normal delivery. It said in 3-5 days it will be there. Yesterday was the last day for the gallery and my DHL said it has arrived. Today the gallery wrote me it is still not here. They give it another day or so.... And it is close. In York. Wish me luck. The struggle is real. My nerves cant take this guys 🥹 I aged 10 years. The hair I don't have turned grey. I can feel it. Edit : It arrived !

Wow congrats! The beautiful drawing and the exhibition spot is definitely a win. The shipping sounds extremely stressful. I hope everything goes well and it gets there soon.
