A 20 year old BCA student asking the real ones โ€” what's the one skill I actually need?
Hey everyone ๐Ÿ‘‹ I'm Abhinav, 20, doing BCA (Data Science + AI). I'm not here to post a "motivational" update. I'm here to ask a real question to the real people in this community โ€” the ones who actually work in tech, build things, and get paid for it. Here's my situation: I need to become financially independent. My annual budget โ€” college fees, living, everything โ€” is around $2,500. That's my number. I want to earn at least that on my own. I have time, I have a laptop, and I'm willing to learn hard. But I'm tired of generic "learn Python and DSA" advice. So I want to ask you directly. Three things I genuinely want to know: 1) The must-have skill โ€” What is the one skill that, without it, you're invisible in today's job market or freelance world? The skill that's table stakes. The floor, not the ceiling. 2) The underrated skill โ€” What's one skill that most people in tech overlook but quietly makes someone far more valuable or hireable than their peers? 3) The unique edge โ€” What's one skill that feels niche or unconventional but is genuinely powerful in this era? The kind of thing that sets someone apart before they even have a portfolio.

AI Developer Accelerator โ€” Coaching Call - May 5th
AI Developer Accelerator โ€” Coaching Call - May 05 VIEW RECORDING - 71 mins (No highlights) Meeting Purpose Review AI projects and discuss developer tool strategies. Key Takeaways - Data Preprocessing is Key: Patrick's "Community Brain" RAG project shows that meticulous data preprocessing (costing ~$30) is the most valuable step, yielding an ~80% performance match to Opus with a local GPT-OSS model. - New AI Dev Stack: Superpower is emerging as a critical framework that enables a shift from Claude to Codex. This move is driven by Claude's recent performance issues and Codex's new, more generous $100/mo tier. - Hardware-Software Synergy: Morgan's Raspberry Pi kiosk engine provides a robust, offline-first display solution, which Juan plans to integrate with his "AI Booth Studio" for dynamic event content. Topics AI Developer Stack: Claude vs. Codex - Problem: Developers are experiencing performance degradation with Claude, including increased token usage and slower response times, leading to frustration and stalled progress. - Solution: Shifting to Codex, with Superpower as the common development harness. Superpower provides a consistent, high-quality development experience across platforms (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex). Codex's new $100/mo tier offers more generous usage limits than Claude's equivalent plan. - Transition Strategy: Patrick: Plans to switch from Claude Max to Codex Max next month. Paul: Will adopt Codex and Superpower to resolve a stalled project. Bastian: Shared methods for remote access to a local Codex instance (QR code or SSH).
