Hello Community, I have been taking some time off recently because I am working on a book. It has the working title โThe Myth of the Self in Western Cultureโ and will likely take at least the next 18 months to complete. I ask for your understanding and will be following things from the sidelines. If anyone is interested in discussing this further, here is a brief summary: What does it mean when we believe that there is a true self within usโand that our purpose in life is to find it and remain true to it? This culturally deeply rooted self-image shapes our ideas of identity, authenticity, and freedomโyet it is increasingly at odds with current findings in psychology, neuroscience, and systems theory. This book traces how this Western myth of the self came about, how it works, and what we know about the self from a scientific perspective today. It describes other conceptions of the self that are more relational, contextual, and ecologically embedded, and shows ways to open up our self-understanding for a future in which needs, relationships, and connectedness to a living world are brought into balance. I am writing the book in German. At the moment, I'm still thinking about it and have a lot to figure out for myself. In Chapter 4, โDevelopment Opportunities,โ i discuss the IDGs. However, i am happy to discuss it in English if anyone would like to. My email address is
