Guilty of over explaining? I am! Guilty of tearing down your answer before you ever say it? I am!

@Ciaran Muir oh yeah calling you out for sure
New Year’s Eve!
What are your New Year’s Resolutions? Let us know and be sure to include a social goal! - Do you make them? - Have you kept or dropped any from previous years? This year we all can be each other’s accountability so we can stick to it!! Comment one of your social goals.

This year - (1)I want to answer questions with more precision and conciseness. Sometimes I ramble on to try to include more than needed in an answer. - (2)I want to meet more people at my gym. I stay pretty much to myself but I’d love to get to know more people.

@Hollie O'Callaghan yeah tell me about it - this last year though I’m still consistent with my resolution. I think it came down for me making a more measurable goal and a more specific one. Also something you really care about and is relevant to your broader goals (obviously). My goals above weren’t that specific, but I’ve got ways to measure my progress if I had expanded.
Welcome to the Social Skills & Confidence Lab.
This is a practice-based community. You don’t need to be confident to participate — confidence comes from reps. Here’s how to start: - You don’t need to post perfectly - Short posts are encouraged - Reading and observing is okay at first - Trying the weekly skill once is enough I'd love it if you would introduce yourself below, keep it simple: - First name - One situation where you’d like more confidence - Or just say “Here to learn” — that counts This isn’t therapy and there’s no pressure to overshare. We focus on practical skills, clear thinking, and real-world practice. When you’re ready, jump into the Skill of the Week post. Glad you’re here.

I'll go first, I'm Aaron and one situation I'd like more confidence is answering questions concisely.

@Andrew Brodkin Heck yeah man. I love it. Just thousands of reps to push through that fear. Yeah reaching the point where you can care a little less about how each conversation goes is for sure leveling up! Hope I can be of help along the way.
Skill of the Week (12/29/25): Starting Conversations
Starting feels awkward because there’s no feedback yet. Once a conversation begins, most people relax. This week’s focus is simple: starting, not being interesting. You don’t need a clever opener. Most conversations start with: - A shared observation - A simple question - A comment about the situation Examples: - “Have you been here before?” - “This place is busier than I expected.” - “How long have you been waiting?” None of these are impressive. That's why they work. THIS WEEK'S PRACTICE: Start one short conversation this week. It can last: - 10 seconds - 30 seconds - Or end immediately All outcomes count. I'll post a short reflection post for you to share at the end of the week.
