🫖 The Observation Game
Make a simple herbal tea together with chamomile, mint, lemon, water (or whatever you already have). Invite your child to: • Smell it before steeping • Watch the color change • Describe the steam Ask: “What do you notice?” You’re building observation skills. But more importantly, you’re sharing attention. Connection grows where curiosity lives.

Balloons... so easy, calming and a cheap path to fun
Did you know that when you UNDERINFLATE balloons, they are a huge source of fun, distractions from tantrums and calming all at the same time? What could be better. Here is one of my classes loving balloon play. WHAT TO REMEMBER: 🎈don't buy dollar store balloons, they pop easily. 🎈Target and party stores sell a much higher quality of balloons 🎈Bag up 4-6 underinflated balloons and keep them in your closet to break out any time. 🎈Don't forget to quickly throw away any popped balloons. 🎈An underinflated balloon is harder to pop and a little one can grasp it easily and hold on to it. 🎈Great for indoor play, they pop on grass

I’m 36 and still love using balloons 🎈 I hope to never grow tired of balloons. There’s so much you can do with them!! And yes dollar store balloons are the worst.
App Feedback Round 2
For those new to the community, I'm working on a Pocket Play Advisor app. A tool parents, grandparents, or caregivers can use when pressed for time or needing some quick play ideas. The first round of feedback was very helpful. @Lisa Vanderveen I've made some additional enhancements for older kids. @Adam Formanek, @Rene Kerkdyk, @Anna Brown,, @Anzumana Taal, and @Sharon Otaguro since you missed the first round, I invite your feedback for round 2. Consider this a Work in Progress - alpha mode. https://pocket-play-advisor.base44.app

Tried it out a few times! Works like a charm! All the buttons seem to be working well. I tried ages 15-17 as that’s who I might deal with the most. Very nifty tool you have here!
Moving from Passenger to Pilot
I don’t know what your childhood was like, but my kids’ childhood was certainly more structured than mine. Of course, my kids also chose the competitive athlete route, which by its very nature requires more rigor. Have you noticed similar differences in your own home? This brings me to a recurring theme I’m seeing among those close to me and the community at large: children often feel like "passengers." Their schedules are curated, their hobbies are rigid, and their goals are often set by adults. This lack of agency is a major contributor to the rise in childhood anxiety. It’s worth reflecting on our own childhoods. Most of us grew up with more "white space", hours where no adult was checking a clipboard. We had the freedom to be bored and to make our own choices. Play is how our kids reclaim that steering wheel. By stepping back and letting them lead, we show them that their ideas carry weight, independent of any grade or trophy. What differences have you noticed from your childhood compared to kids today?
