3 Lessons Sept 11th Taught Me About Money
Twenty five years ago I was working on Wall Street on 9/11. I just wrote down the 3 lessons I learned based on that day. One of them is about a coworker who was ready for anything, and one who was completely blindsided. Read it here 👈 and comment below. 👇

@Gregory B thank you for bringing up the currency. Here's the breakdown, on both the US entry side and the Turkey purchase side: Bringing gold into the US (entry/customs) - Investment-grade gold — bars or coins at least 99.5% pure (995/1000) — is duty-free, regardless of value. There is no federal import duty on investment gold, bars with a purity of at least 995/1000 and coins of at least 900/1000 HTS 7108 covers gold bullion, coins, and unwrought gold and it's duty-free — investment-grade gold in bar or coin form pays no tariff regardless of value GoldRepublicSafewebutils - You still have to declare it to CBP on arrival — that's a reporting requirement, not a tax. There is no duty on gold coins, medals or bullion but these items must be declared to a CBP officer CBP Customer Service - If the value is $10,000 or more, you also need to file a FinCEN Form 105. If you carry gold coins or other monetary instruments worth $10,000 or more, you must additionally file a FinCEN Form 105 GoldRepublic - Gold jewelry is different — that's dutiable (not treated as bullion), and only your first $800 per person is exempt. HTS 7113, articles of jewelry in gold, is dutiable, and the $800 personal traveler exemption applies to jewelry, not bullion Safewebutils - One thing to watch for with Turkey specifically: gold bars from the Middle East or Turkey may face LBMA certification issues — worth checking that whatever you buy is from a recognized/certified refiner, since that affects resale value later, not just customs. We saved everything and still almost missed early retirement
We used to make good money and save diligently. But our money just sat in bank accounts and retirement accounts while we watched others grow their wealth in ways we didn't understand. It sucked because we felt too embarrassed to ask for help without looking foolish while working at an investment bank. We lived through the 2001 and 2008 market crashes but, investing felt too risky for people like us because we grew up without money. But then, in business school, we learned portfolio theory. We realized most mutual funds were largely a waste of time and that we could manage our own money better ourselves. Which led us to managing our own portfolios, achieving over 22% returns, building $10K+/month in passive income through real estate and the stock market, and retiring at 34. Want to know how we did it? Reply YES and I’ll DM you the details.
