Please watch this. I think you will find it valuable.
Refinishing Teak furniture. Two patio chairs in dire need of magic.
Reset screws, reglued joints, got creative on a couple screw joints, now on the 5th coat of marine finish varnish. Beautiful!

Anyone else working on restoration projects right now? What is the toughest finish you've had to bring back to life?

You’ve got to be careful working with teak. It’s very oily and it will fool you — you might think the glue has grabbed until you put stress on the joint. I always wipe teak down with acetone before glue or finish. Anyone else have tricks that help when working with oily woods?
👋 Meet Rick – Founder of The Woodworkers Dojo
Hi everyone, I’m Rick. I started woodworking as a kid, building forts and small projects with my father’s tools. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, I went straight into the trades and never looked back. Over the years I’ve worked across framing, trim, cabinetry, millwork, and high-end installations. I’ve spent time in small shops, big jobs, and just about every situation where wood and problem-solving meet. What I learned is this: 👉 Skill comes from practice.👉 Progress comes faster when knowledge is shared.👉 And nobody masters this craft alone. That’s why I built The Woodworkers Dojo. This is a place to improve together — whether you’re brand new or decades in. No ego. No gatekeeping.Just woodworkers helping woodworkers. I’ll be here answering questions, sharing lessons learned (sometimes the hard way), and helping you avoid the mistakes that cost time and money. Glad you’re here. Let’s build. 🔨
📌 Welcome to The Woodworkers Dojo – Start Here
Welcome to the Dojo. I’m Rick — a lifelong carpenter and cabinetmaker. I’ve spent decades in shops, on jobsites, and solving real-world woodworking problems. This community is where we practice, improve, and help each other grow. Whether you're picking up tools for the first time or have years in the trade, you belong here.

I'm working on an arch-top guitar, and a Desktop Secretary box,... oh, and refinishing some teak furniture. What's on your bench?

Woodworking for over 40 years. 3rd degree Blackbelt. I'm more a master at woodworking than karate. I now approach woodwork as a Zen practice.
