Cold-weather riding: why is it so hard to get right? 🥶🚴‍♂️
Anyone else struggle with layering in winter? I always seem to get it wrong — either I overdo it and end up baking halfway through the ride, or I underdo it and spend the whole time freezing. Today’s ride was a classic example: core felt just about okay, legs were manageable… but my feet? Absolute ice blocks by the first few kilometres. Once they’re cold, that’s it — no coming back. I’m trying to work out the sweet spot between staying warm enough without turning into a sweaty mess that just makes everything worse later on. Socks, overshoes, shoe vents, circulation, pacing — it all feels like a dark art in cold weather. What’s everyone’s go-to setup for genuinely cold rides? Especially for keeping feet warm without cooking the rest of your body. Any small tweaks or “wish I’d known this sooner” tips welcome.

Supplements and potions
I’ve been using Beet It nitrate shots and Xendurance lactic acid buffer tablets to help with cycling performance. I understand the marketing claims — improved endurance, reduced fatigue, better lactate processing, etc. — but I’m not sure how much of that is actually backed by solid research. Do these types of supplements genuinely improve performance, or are they mostly placebo/snake oil? And if they do work, are the effects noticeable only in elite athletes or for someone like me who’s still building fitness?

Roadman Coaching - Zwift 'club'
Before I throw my laptop out of the nearest window - a final message....... I have set up a club within Zwift so that we can organise some group rides when the weather is not lending itself to us going outside, if we don't fancy heading out and doing Z1/Z2 rides out or are simply pushed for time and easier to jump the turbo. I am pretty sure that we are able to schedule rides with both 'rubberbanding' so no-one can blast off and pretty sure that rides can be arranged so that EVERYONE sits within their designated/required zone. I have got a bit more reading to do. if you would like to join the Zwift group, here is the link: https://www.zwift.com/uk/clubs/3678ecfd-8c84-459e-92e3-92677a9e2496/join When group rides are organised there will be notifications sent out via Zwift and published on here too.

FTP tests
Best of luck to @Alex Omar @Aidan Fitton @John Mullally @Vern Loebs Jr @Davis Robinson doing testing either today or in the next few days. It always helps me mentally to segment the effort into quarters. Look to build the effort each quarter. The 3 key rules for a test like this : 1. Don't start too hard 2. Don't start too hard 3. Don't start too hard Best of luck, drop us a message here after to let us know how you felt. We're rooting for ya 💪 Edit: I'd love to know what your music/playlist of choice during the test is? I'm hardcore gangster rap
