Looking for Your Insight on Channel Growth
Hey Tribe, One of the things I’ve always appreciated about Alexa’s Creator Boost Tribe is the sense of togetherness—that “we’re all in this together” mindset. That’s exactly why I’m reaching out. As I mentioned in the last live, a true competitor to my channel popped up about two weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/@Stillinthefightveteran Honestly, I’m pretty blown away. In just 14 days, they’ve grown to over 10,000 subscribers and appear to have already reached monetization. For context, here’s my channel: https://www.youtube.com/@agingstrong While our channels aren’t identical, they’re close enough that I feel like there’s something important I can learn—especially when it comes to engagement and growth. I’ve been growing steadily, but this really showed me there’s another level I haven’t tapped into yet. If you have a few minutes and are open to it, I’d truly appreciate any thoughts, feedback, or insights on what they might be doing differently or effectively—and where I might improve. I know everyone’s time is valuable, so thank you in advance to anyone who’s willing to take a look. It really means a lot. Much appreciated 🙏 Andy

Honestly, it’s the simplicity. No captions, no flashy thumbnails, no b-roll—just real, straightforward content. And being a veteran from decades ago probably adds to that authenticity.
Last week, I had a sudden realization.
A competitor appeared almost out of nowhere and, in just over a week, grew to more than 5,000 subscribers. His numbers were climbing steadily every day. What stood out even more was how closely his channel mirrored mine—same target audience, similar content style, and similar delivery. That’s when it clicked: something in this space clearly works. There’s a pattern, a formula, or a set of principles driving that kind of rapid growth. There may be many possible explanations, but my focus now is on finding the right one—the one that truly makes the difference. And whatever that explanation is, it has to align with my principles, values, purpose, and focus. For those of you who’ve experienced or studied this kind of growth—what do you think is the key factor that makes it work?

Here's why I stopped treating Shorts as a separate strategy
There was a point earlier this year where I genuinely considered dropping Shorts altogether. Not because they weren't working. But because trying to maintain them alongside long-form was quietly grinding me down. Every week felt like I was running two channels, and I was only properly showing up for one of them. What changed it for me was a pretty simple reframe. I stopped thinking about Shorts as a separate content job and started treating them as something that already existed inside my long-form videos; I just needed to find them. I use Opus Clip now to do the finding. Drop in the long-form, let it surface the best moments, spend a few minutes sharpening the hook on each clip, then link them back to the full video through YouTube Studio. That's it. One filming session becomes a week of content. It's not a magic fix. The growth is steady rather than sudden. But for the first time in a while, the content schedule feels manageable rather than like something I'm constantly behind on. If you're juggling both formats right now, what's making it feel hard?

If my understanding is right, what is being one is grabbing a chunk from long form and converting to make a short form. I am stumped by how you can make a coherent short by simply grabbing a few sentences from long form and expecting anyone to understand what it's about. Of course the other question is converting horizontal to vertical. Thanks
Accountability Partners
I learned in today's Live Call about the use of Accountability Partners. I would like to join an existing group or start anew. How about you? Andy @agingstrong

Follow-up to live session: I learn practically every day something new about this journey. Today's video session was one of those learning moments. As for future events, it feels best to put this on the back burner. Thank you all for your interest.

@Michael LeJeune Thanks might. You’re right on. I didn’t think I’d be making waves. It’s meant as a low key option for anyone here who wants to jump on a call. I gave it a try this morning. . It was fine but I feel the pushback so maybe not the best idea after all. Peace
I am stuck
Hi there. Any aspiring coaches out there who are willing to help me get me unstuck? Thanks Andy @agingstrong.

@Kevin De Garcia Hi Kevin. So @agingstrong has been climbing fairly regularly with subscribers but slow in viewer time. I’ve scratching my head about the view time issue. I aim for about ten minutes long. But to extend the time I just started adding a compelling guest to extend the video to about 30 minutes. I’m not an expert in analytics but it’s mostly men 25 to 34 age group. I need men/women 60 plus. As you know there are many variables and I can pivot when necessary. A couple of pivots have included focusing more on women, using lighter colors more and adding a female guest. Hopefully that gives you a fuller picture. Andy

@Kevin De Garcia thank you so much for your contribution. I will take more time to process it. In particular the thumbnail input. I like what you suggested regarding topics and how to generate those topics. I’ll be processing your advice. Let me know if there’s is anything I can do to thank you further. Andy
