LET’S BREAK THE ICE (AND THE SILENCE)
I can see so many of you quietly hangin’ in the shadows, drinking your coffee behind the scenes. I love that you’re here! But writing was never meant to be a silent, solitary sport. This community is your cozy, zero-judgment creative sanctuary — and we want to hear your voice, even if it’s just a whisper today. Let’s shake off the Monday dust and warm up the room with a quick, ultra-low-stakes game. No long essays or perfect prose required! 🔥 The 10-Second Challenge: In the comments below, give us the answer to just one of these questions: - What is the single most comforting smell in your kitchen right now? ☕🍞 - If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what’s on the plate? 🍕🥗 - Are you team savoury or team sweet? 🧀🍩 Over to you! 👇 Don't scroll past — drop your quick answer below and say a quick hello to a fellow creator. Let’s bring the warmth back to this table together!

I am Team Sweet and Savoury! Give me spiced summer fruits with venison, truffle honey over sharp cheese, and yes, pineapple on pizza. Mix all the popcorn, and throw in a bag of salt liquorice.

I've just been on holiday and need a break after the break! But I did have one spectacular meal for my mother's birthday. I'll do a write up if I can find a moment before I head back to work.
WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A YEAR FROM NOW?
Imagine walking up to your mailbox next June, pulling out a heavy package, and slicing it open. Inside is a stack of pristine, beautifully bound books. You pick one up, run your hand across the cover, and see your name printed beneath the title. You open it, smell the fresh ink, and flip through pages filled with your stories and family legacies. A profound wave of pride washes over you. You didn't just dream it. You actually did it. That deep, soul-satisfying realization that your legacy is secure is your true destination. You can find a generic writing checklist anywhere on the internet. But the process isn't what changes your life — the identity shift is. When you step into this circle, you shed the title of "aspiring" writer and step into the reality of a published author. The next 12 months are going to pass anyway. Where do you want to be when they do? Cast your vote below! 👇 Tell us exactly where you want to land, because defining the destination is the first step to arriving there. 📊 POLL: One year from today, what does your breakthrough look like?

@Julianne Anderson why don't you make it for them now, and add to it together? I'm nearly 50 and only just starting to take down my mum's recipes. There are so many she just can't remember any more, it makes me terribly sad I left it this late!

@Gwynne Conlyn that's how I'm getting most of the recipes, but there are things we made together in my childhood we both sort of remember the ingredients for but not the quantities... I really miss her chocolate walnut fudge!
Stories that travel through food
Gwynne asked me to share this tiny piece of writing about my very disorderly kitchen. Since this morning I found a use for the lemons... 😁🍋🍋🍋🍋 If my kitchen could talk today, it would tell the story of meals hastily made, the pots and pans still stacked haphazardly on the drainer, potatoes rolling over the counter next to a half eaten packet of crisps, a bag of lentils and four desultory lemons which missed their chance to be used for something greater but will still be good for a sharp squeeze over fresh trout, if there is any to be had. But despite the chaos there is also a deep sense of calm on this quiet morning with the scent of coffee lingering in the air, of joy in throwing ingredients together, of evenings spent with loved ones in the abandoned corks, of once lazy afternoons of baking, frying and sizzling in the random jars of treacle and stem ginger in syrup and chilli oil with garlic and Mermaid Confetti for which there is no space in the cupboard.

@Gwynne Conlyn thank you! 🥰
Fabulous cookbook module
@Gwynne Conlyn kindly gave me access to the module "The cookbook you're meant to write". I want to go back through it more slowly but it's got some great strategies and ideas. I have some recipes coming out there in the world next year - I write science fiction and fantasy and have a collection of food themes stories with accompanying recipes being published - but never really thought about a whole cookbook. Until now! Lots of ideas are flowing!
