Posting great content isn't enough to create engagement. (Sorry.)
Build an amazing community. Post awesome content. Members will show up and start commenting. That's how it works, right? ๐—ช๐—ฅ๐—ข๐—ก๐—š!! The one thing I notice consistently across so many communities, are community owners asking "๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ ๐—œ ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—บ๐˜† ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ?" We've been told that it's a simple matter of posting stuff that they want to comment on. But quite honestly it doesn't always work that way. The reality is that as a community owner, ๐˜„๐—ฒ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ in our communities. One thing I do in every single post is include a CTA (๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ญ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ) that tells my members exactly how to engage in the comments. I don't leave it open by saying "what's your thoughts" or "anyone else?" Instead, I create something Drop a comment below and tell me how you teach your members to engage with your content... or tell us where you're getting stuck! ๐Ÿ‘‡

This is spot on - especially about teaching people how to engage instead of assuming they will. One thing Iโ€™ve been noticing is that even with clear CTAs, thereโ€™s still a moment where someone just.. doesnโ€™t act once. Not because they donโ€™t understand, but it slips and it's normal. And if nothing reacts to that one miss, they usually donโ€™t come back the same way again. Curious if youโ€™ve seen that happen as well.

@Karin Crawford Thatโ€™s actually a perfect example of what I meant. A public commitment tool is basically just a simple way for someone to say ''Iโ€™m going to do X'' - in a visible way. Not for pressure, but so that when they donโ€™t follow through, it doesnโ€™t just disappear silently like you described. Right now, most of those moments just get lost. Thatโ€™s the gap Iโ€™ve been looking at.

Hey everyone - thanks for the warm welcome! I have been really interesting reading through the discussions here already. One thing Iโ€™ve been looking into quite closely is what actually happens just before someone goes quiet in a community - it rarely feels like a big drop, more like a small shift thatโ€™s easy to miss. Curious to learn how you all notice that moment (if you do at all).

Looking closely at what actually happens inside cohort-based communities. Trying to understand why people start strong... and then quietly disappear.
