Ever been told you didn’t want something bad enough? Yeah, it happened to me...and it stung... I got rejected during an interview process in 2021 with one of the best companies in the online info space. The owner straight up said, "Sounds good, but we just don't think you want it bad enough good luck on your sales career" That moment lit a fire under my ass. I decided right then and there I was going to prove them wrong. Pissed off, persistent and ready to rock. I spent an entire day on a rooftop in downtown, recording 100 takes of a single intro video. Over and over. Until it was perfect. Then I sent it off. Guess what? I closed the deal. I got the job. Little did I know that moment would change the entire trajectory of my life.... On my first team video call, I see the guy who rejected me. He was in a pool in Costa Rica, shirtless on Zoom. I thought, "Holy fuck, that's my vision." Right there, I DM him in the private chat: "You're in Costa Rica right now?" "Yeah, dude, what's up?" he replies. I said, "I'm coming to Costa Rica, and you're paying for it." He was like, "What do you mean?" "How many deals do I need to close this month? You're covering it all." Next day, he texts me: "17." I closed 18. Just because you can do the whole discovery, doesn't mean you should. When you have someone who's ready to rock, they know they want your solution, and they're in decision mode. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just pitch them. Then, off the back end of the pitch, you can do a bit of discovery once you've gotten that out of the way. Sales is not a one-size-fits-all solution.
