✨️The Constellation
This piece has been on my heart for sometime. Today it feels complete. I thought I would share it here. I hope it brings you some joy, hope or gratitude for where you are now. 🌟 My first conference with a community of women in business was a weekend at Sparkling Hill. On my drive home, I couldn’t resist pulling over on a dark stretch of highway to look up at the stars. There were so, so, so many. It was a perfectly clear night, and standing there under that enormous sky, I remember thinking: I wish everybody could feel this inspired. I wished people could get even a glimpse of their own unique purpose—and then stand in community with other people who were discovering theirs, too. To me, it was beautiful. That was around the time I joined social media, and for a while, I really did have a community around me. I had support. I had people who inspired me. It felt like we were all part of something. And after that first year, when I looked at the thought leaders I admired, I started to imagine they were all part of the same club and myself admiring them from a distance. I think I saw it that way because I had experienced my own little version of that club. But the truth is, it probably wasn't quite that simple. Have you ever looked at the Big Dipper and thought, Wow. Those stars are so beautifully woven in place, like they are meant to belong together. From here, they look like a perfect little community in the sky. But the interesting thing about constellations is that the stars that appear close together from Earth can actually be incredibly far apart from one another. Some are much farther away from us than others. And over time they are even moving away from each other. The pattern is something we see from our one position. The stars don't necessarily know they're part of it. And maybe communities can be like that, too. Sometimes we find ourselves surrounded by people who seem perfectly aligned with us. We share ideas, dreams, inspiration and purpose, and it feels like we've found our people.

Sunday Soul Story | The Love We Learn to Recognize
Today is Thanksgiving Sunday, and it’s my Dad’s heavenly birthday. Six years ago, on October 11, 2020, I wrote a reflection about my relationship with him. At the time, I was recognizing how much of my life I’d spent seeking his love, approval, and acceptance, and how my own inner work had helped me see our relationship differently. My Dad married my Mom and adopted my sister Margot and me when I was three. Because of him, I also have my brother Greg. There are so many layers to a life together, and not all of them are easy to understand while we’re living them. One thing I’ve come to appreciate is that love doesn’t always arrive in the form we expect or wish for. Sometimes it takes years, distance, loss, and a willingness to examine our own stories before we recognize what a relationship has taught us. Today I’m driving to Vancouver to celebrate Thanksgiving and another family birthday. My cousin’s wife shares this date with Dad. On Tuesday, my Aunt and I will travel to Vancouver Island to visit my brother and his beautiful partner. There is something lovely about spending four hours driving and remembering traveling these high mountain passes with my parents. And feeling grateful for the people who are no longer physically here, like my parents and my sister, while celebrating the people who are. What if gratitude isn’t about being thankful only for the moments we cherish? What if it is also about recognizing how the complicated ones have shaped our capacity to love, understand, and appreciate the lives we’ve been given. Happy heavenly birthday, Dad. Thank you for loving me in your way, and for being part of the woman I’ve become. As you think about the people who have shaped your life, whose love have you come to understand differently over time? Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends. 💜 Trust what’s yours, Pamela

Pondering the Complex and Complicated Moments in Life My mom comes to mind. I appreciate the relationship I had with her and all the love that has continued to evolve throughout my lifetime, her lifetime, and even now, since she's been gone. Love has a way of continuing to grow and change, even when someone is no longer physically here. Another complex part of my life has been my marriage and the coming together of families. I didn't have a big wedding with my husband. His family situation is complicated. He's not in touch with his adoptive parents, but he has reconnected with his birth parents. To me, marriage was always about the coming together of families. I've had to re-evaluate that expectation because I haven't met much of his family, including his birth mom. I have met the sister he grew up with and his birth dad, and I'm grateful for those connections. My husband’s birth parents were very young when they had him, and he was placed for adoption. The birth parents eventually lost touch, but when he reconnected with them in his twenties, something beautiful happened: his birth parents rekindled their love for each other and are now married. His birth mom also has daughters of her own. Life doesn't always unfold the way we imagine it will. Sometimes, the relationships we expect to have look different from what we pictured, and we have to make room for a new understanding of what family means. I'm in touch with his birth mom through letters, even though we haven't met in person. I'm thinking about sending her a text this weekend, just to let her know she's on my mind. I cherish this new relationship and consider her family. A lesson I have learned.with life's complex and complicated moments: learning to let go of some of our expectations while remaining open to the love and connection that are still possible. On that note, there was a new addition to my family this week. My brother had a new baby girl who I am very excited to meet, once they are ready, settled and have rested a bit.
