Should a leader be the first one in and the last one out? One side says yes. You can't ask people to give their best if you aren't willing to. Your presence sets the standard, and people notice who shows up. The other side says that's exactly the problem. When the leader never leaves, the team learns that exhaustion is the expectation. It can also quietly say "I don't trust you to handle it without me." And a leader who never rests eventually leads from an empty tank. I have my own leanings on this one, but I want to hear yours first. Where do you land, and what experience taught you that?

I am still walking on cloud nine from meeting so many amazing people in person at the New York City Experience Mastermind in Atlanta and talking back and forth with them. Something that has come up is that they have already impacted my life so much just by their presence, living by their values, and seeing their virtue. I think that we forget that people are watching and people are observant of how we behave and how we act. Your behavior will impact others and when you're a leader it all begins with you and your example is seen. I am grateful for all of the leaders in this room. I just had an incredible conversation with @Javier Velasquez on his goals as a leader and how he's been leveling up. Javier is committed to becoming more active in the community and more intentional with his engagement, and I’m excited to see what comes from that. We’re proud to have Javier as a member of the Unified Leadership Academy, growing alongside us while also helping us continue to build this incredible community that @Timothy Clay, @Bethany Stone, @Renee Jackson-Smith and I created. This is what community is about. We grow individually, we grow together, and we help each other rise.

I've been thinking a lot about specific skills that we need to build our leadership and everything always comes back to us. When we have that intrinsic motivation, that knowledge of who we are, that grounding, and that gratitude, it's easier to go forward and lead with confidence. In this area of skills, let's create a gratitude list. Post something that you are grateful for today and let's see how we can grow in gratitude.
