Dear Brother Max, First of all, Im so proud of what you wrote here. I honor your bravery, honesty, authenticity and self awareness. I feel you so deeply on your post. I have been thinking about responding to your post for a while. After listening to Chris podcast today, I grew 2 pair of balls. It made me realized that Im qualified to add some value. I have some experience in this department. I have lived as a step father for many years until I had my biological son. Here is my unsolicited value to our brotherhood. I will write briefly: I acknowledge your guilt towards your negative feelings. These are very good signals coming deep from your soul. You are coming into this situation without any previous child raising experience. Raising someone’s child is delicate process. I bow to you, your soul, quality of protector, provider and your kindness. Family, kids, loving partner give us a deeper meaning and connection that we belong to something or someone. But we have to be very careful that we are not coming from sense of lack, or out of balance. We need to belong to ourselves before we belong to anything else. after reading your message, I see that there are so many things are being challenged at this time in your life right now. Our ability to provide and protect is deeply integrated with us as a men which is an amazing quality. But it’s exhausting if you dont rest or share your fucking load with deeply trusted friends and family. As a man, we cant be pushing us until we break down then beat ourself for being weak even more. 7 months of out work will drive anyone off balance specially in the beautiful Capitalist American society. BILLS BILLS BILLS BABY ( I couldnt find any cool meme ) I know deeply how exhausting it is to be step dad or even a dad. Let it be your own or someone’s else, it is a big responsibility to carry. Constantly question of Should I be friend today or Dad today? Should I prioritize my wellbeing or their wellbeing? I dont know anything about your religious background but always wonder even the carpenter dude, Joseph, step dad of Jesus, had a guilt and negative feelings about raising Jesus. The funny thing is no one really gives the enough credit towards Joseph. He is always out of the spotlight but yet he is moving things around and making things work. This dude, Joseph was working as a humble carpenter, has provided a shelter, food, to Jesus and his Mama. I bet he bought so many Nike sandels to Baby Jesus. Yet he is always in the background. WTF, Joseph’s humility and egoless lifestyle is admirable. I always wonder who did Joseph hangout with as brothers. Who is supporting Joseph, who is he venting out to? Who is there for him when he needed a space, help or need a job? What is his relationshipt with himself and God look like? Is this someone who we can learn from as a step father?
