Sorry to be morbid - or perhaps just practical - but this popped into my inbox today from Rachel Harrison Sund so thought I would share What happens to your Amazon KDP account—and any future royalties—after you die? This question had never been a thought bubble popping out from my noggin until a student brought it up in one of our Q&A calls (shoutout to Pam!). But the reality is that, if you don't have a plan in place, your loved ones might never see a penny from the books you worked so hard to create. THIS is a HUUUGE TRAP that I see alllll the time and it makes me really really sad and we NEED TO CHANGE THE STORY ready for this final quarter of the year! Try not to publish just 1 or 2 books and then start thinking thoughts like this..... ........."Oh is my book selling?" ........."Why is my book not making any sales?" ........."I'm really upset because my first book made no sales." .........."I'm a failure because my book is not selling." ........."Oh I don't think publishing books is going to work for me because I'm not making any money" .........."I'm just no good at this." THIS IS A LOSERS MINDSET Book Bosses........ the people who think these thoughts will NEVER be successful at book publishing and I may upset some people by saying this, but, I also believe they will not be successful at 98% of other entrepreneurial pursuits too! Because most other entrepreneurial pursuits also don't give them instant results either! Which is really really sad. These people need to flip burgers and sell them one at a time or sell cakes at a cake sale.....because they have ZERO LONG TERM VISION. These are the people who will frog hop and ping pong from trying one idea to trying out something else to something else and then onto something else. SAD. ______ My first 22 books didn't make any sales................at first......... yes TWENTY TWO BOOKS! ZERO SALES! .......and then I worked really hard and I made a book about batch cooking small dogs meals and that started selling straight away......and has made incredible sales ever since! But soooo many people would have ALREADY GIVEN UP a long time ago if they had published 22 books and made ZERO SALES! ......But I knew in my mind that this business HAS TO WORK FOR ME because amazon pays out over A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS to book publishers around the globe every single month! I knew I could have a piece of that $100 MILLION PIE! It wasn't just a pie for others to eat from and not me! That would be so dumb of me to think that!

A Book Bosser asked yesterday for an example of the pages I add to the front and the back of a lot of my books. It honestly depends on what sort of a book it is - I usually will also add a page about how to do the book or for coloring books I will add a page all about how to color in the book without your pens bleeding onto the next coloring page and ruining it by placing a piece of card paper inbetween the pages as you are coloring! I also sometimes add a "This Book Belongs to" page - especially for coloring books. So I joined a higher ticket Book Publishing Coaching Group - the guy running it has been a book publisher for 15 years and is now at multiple 6 figures! He provides feedback with book covers and helps with running Amazon Ads (which is the thing I didnt know much about!) and so that was the reason why I joined it! Plus I am able to be in a community of high level long term publishers too which I thought would be good for me! Anyways.............I submitted my last 2 word search puzzle books for book cover feedback to see what he would say. To my horror he just told me he "doesn't like busy book covers" and to take all the photos and graphics off the front of my covers! So I was advised to take off the sofa chair and the fireplace and the lamp and the plant to turn it into a totally PLAIN book cover! WHY? The reasoning? Because he personally "doesnt like busy book covers!!!" ___ So I was pretty gobsmacked actually. He didn't even try to see what book covers perform the best in these categories or what types of covers are getting the most sales! When you look at the best selling autum and winter and xmas gift word search book covers its the grafics on the front that are setting the best sellers apart from the beginners and the novice books that are just making a few drops and drabs of sales here and there! I even purchased some top best-selling word search books and they all have well-designed nice busy covers. My target audience for the winter one is women over 40+ and seniors who want to curl up and be cosy in front of the fire with their puzzle book - my target audience is not a middle aged bloke who is a book publisher or even a guy who prefers plain book covers! This bloke made no attempt to even@ look at my book through the lens of my target audience. He just told me his own preference! And when I look at all the plain word search book covers...literally NONE OF THEM are performing as well as the busier more designed covers. ______ I'm telling you this because I am shocked. If I took this guys advice then I would be publishing a completely plain series of word search puzzle books just like all the rest of the books that tick over with a few piddly sales here and there on Amazon!
