Turning favorites into sales
Hi, one of my listings seems to be pretty popular (at least more so than my others by a large margin). I've sold a handful of copies and I'm getting 3-5 favorites every day on it. I'm getting traffic and I'm getting consistent faves, so something must be resonating with them. I think this listing has real potential to blow up even more. How can I figure out what might be keeping them from placing an order? Yes, I have the automated 'your favorite' coupon code set up and I've also tried running a time limited discount. Thanks for any advice you can provide!

@Sam Bert Thank you Sam. I noticed that my images are cropped a little funny on the etsy app vs on the web, so I will try and update those as well. I also added more information in the listing images themselves.
To Open Or Not To Open
Good afternoon! 😃 As far as Etsy goes starting with a shop that’s full of listings for a beginner would be awesome, but what would be the least acceptable amount that you should open a shop with? Or should you wait till you have all listing slots filled before opening? 🤔

I was in this boat for literally almost a year, trying to get my listings, mailing list, social media, everything super 'ready' and on point, but I realized that there will never be a perfect moment, I had to put aside that fear and just start posting. I still have a plan, sure, but waiting to have EVERYTHING in order was simply keeping me from doing anything. As someone else said, you can't sell anything that's not listed. I had a bunch of designs I had made over the months so I'm not creating new stuff every day, but I am still putting them into the mockups/listings a little bit at a time and I think staying consistent with your activity is better than releasing a big collection and then disappearing. I think this is the difference between etsy and somewhere like shopify, if you were opening a store on shopify you gotta have a whole catalog ready to go because you're driving your own traffic, but etsy has a search function to bring in a steady stream of viewers and also an algorithm that likes to see you (and buyers) coming back.
Made my first sale(s)!
I've been posting 1-2 listings a day to mostly crickets (and bots, omg no one warned me about all the bot DMs, lol) but a few days ago I got my first sale! I was warming up food in the microwave and then I heard that 'cha-ching!' sound effect on my phone go off 💕 What was even better was that a few hours later the same customer came back and bought even more! Feels like a good start. I haven't had any more sales since then, but that moment was very special :) It took me 8 days to get my first sale(s), so not too shabby! Thank you to Bailey and all the others here who have been very encouraging.

Rabbit Hole Paralysis
How long do you all spend on market/trend research before you crawl out of the rabbit hole and just make something? I keep looking and trying to understand what I'm seeing on eRank and comparing it to Google Trends, Pinterest searches, Etsy's search auto-fill, etc.. I feel like I'm just sitting here cross-referencing things hoping to come up with something phenomenal and really just not getting anywhere, lol. Also, when I'm looking on Pinterest, the Etsy listings I end up clicking on don't actually have many sales or traffic. I'm not clicking on anything sponsored, so maybe I'm just not understanding how this all works lol. I think part of it is that trying to pair trends with originality can be difficult. The ideas I *do* have are just not being searched for. But I swear if I see another pink bow... 🤣

@Deb Carr I have a print on my wall that says 'Don't ask what seat, just get on!' The full quote is "If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat. Just get on." From Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg during a speech to Harvard's graduating class in 2012. A lot of times (myself included) we get so overthinking about doing everything right that we miss incredible opportunities that are right in front of us. I'm still working on actually applying that knowledge, but it's an important reminder.
Etsy now charging $29 to open a new store!
I'm US-based, already have two Etsy stores in good standing (opened in '23 and '24), and when I opened a new store this week hoping to NOT be charged the $15 fee (as many are having it waived), I was charged $29! This is Etsy's latest upselling, marketing "incentive" (ploy), saying I could get the $29 refunded (after SIX months!) if I signed up for the Etsy Plus account, which I obviously declined.

@Eula McPherson that's what I was thinking! That's nothing compared to Shopify, AND on Shopify you have to bring your own traffic!

@Joanne Lalli that's a valid concern, and it's always good to have a backup. I'm new to selling on Etsy but I've been selling (completely different types of products) on Amazon for nearly 15 years so I know all about the horror stories ;) Etsy is simply the best option for me at the moment for my product and priorities, but you better believe I'll be building an email list of customer info just in case anything happens.
