I am in the writer's weekly 24-hour short story contest this weekend. Here is the prompt. The story has to touch on it in some way but doesn't have to match it directly. So, what story would you write with this? There wouldn't be a garden this year. There was no longer any water, and the only source of light now was from candles. The animals had all been set free to fend for themselves. She was sitting on the bench with her forehead on the rickety table when ahe heard footsteps on the porch ___ When I'm doing something like this, the trick of it is not to go the obvious route. Think of something unusual. I'm curious to see what type of story you might tell with this prompt!

I just thought I'd mention this, because there's still a little time if you want to participate... I'm entering the Writers Weekly 24-Hour Short Story Contest this weekend. You have to write a whole story in 24 hours. Here's how it works: - * You get a prompt and word limit at start time, Sat. April 18th at noon central. (The word limit is 5 pages or less, essentially. It's been 900ish to 1100ish words in the past) - * Your story must touch on the prompt in some way, but need not match it exactly. - * You must turn in the story by the deadline of noon Sunday. Who else loves dolphins? It is dolphin day and in honor of that, we have something from The hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy world, h2g2. Because in that fun universe, dolphins are smarter than humans, which I think most of us here would agree!.. enjoy this fun video, and happy dolphin day!

Every week, I get some requests to join the community that are obviously spam. Case in points: Somebody who says they teach people to do faceless YouTube channels. Does that honestly sound like somebody who's one of us? Absolutely not! And so I protect you as well as I can from things like this by manually approving new member requests. It may mean someone's excitement is damping for a little bit until they get approved, and it also means that some of these asinine spammers aren't going to be coming in here to bother us. This is a sanctuary space!
