@Channing Mack Well, Happy Birthday to your wife and thank you so much for the early birthday wishes!
Why Mainstream Music Sounds the Same
I created this video as a general education in mainstream music. It analyzes the ways in which the mainstream is fixed on a certain formula and not so much on the musical aspects that make music...music. Sort of like a guide in what to listen for in music. Check it out and let me know what you think.

@Channing Mack Where is your Youtube Channel? I'll give it a follow. I'm documenting my journey as an adult learning the saxophone. Here is mine, although I'm just getting started: https://www.youtube.com/@MidlifeSaxCrisis

@Channing Mack Yeah, I was giving the flute a shot, but not fully sold on it. I love the saxophone. I don’t love the flute LOL. I’ve also ordered a clarinet to try that out as well. I also like a reed! I would love to play a Bari! They sound awesome to me! They are just sooooo expensive, as I know you are aware LOL

Reeds
Happy Tuesday all and hope your week is going well so far! I wanted to post a tip on reeds and what reed to start out with. There are all types of strengths of reeds and they range: 👉1.5 (thinnest) 👉2.0 👉2.5 👉3.0 👉3.5+ They increase in .5 to 5.0 being the thickest and hardest to play. There are many brands like: ✔️Rico ✔️Vandoren ✔️D'Adarrio ✔️Legere (synthetic) The brand at this point really doesn't matter just depends on how much you are willing to spend in the beginning stages. My advice would be: ✅Start 1.5 - 2.5 Rico Rico brand is more economical for beginning students and those strengths are the easiest when first starting to figure out your sound and your embouchure set up. Starting out doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, it just has to be functional.

As a beginner, one thing I will add is that while the Legere synthetic reeds actually sound really good and remove the need to wet the reed before playing, they feel very hard to me. I use a 2, and it is extremely hard to blow. I normally play 2.5 Vandoren cane reeds, and I have to blow almost twice as hard to get sound out of the Legere. I have heard good things about the Forestone White Bamboo synthetic reeds, but I have never tried them. I recently ordered a box of the Boston Sax Shop Black Label and a box of the Silver Label, both in 2.5. They have not arrived yet, but I will let you know how they play once they do. I have also heard great things about them. Saxologic on YouTube recently did a very detailed review of the five different Boston Sax Shop reed labels: https://youtu.be/B6RgEacuGRY?si=lsIaGQUDLaL1cysK Rigotti is the manufacturer of the Boston Sax Shop reeds. Just wanted to share.
