5 contributions to Sacred Writing
Welcome Wednesday
It's a wonderful feeling seeing new member notices from people who are here to write. Please join me in officially welcoming our newest members. @Deb Spotleson I first met Deb in the Self-Publishing Skool and during our SPS chat on Tuesday, she recognized our Sacred Writing Community was also a good fit. Deb runs the Bravmunity Community for Parents & grandparents of picky eaters: end food battles, ditch separate meals and help your child confidently enjoy more real food. 🥕❤️ @Stacey Carrolll rolled in to Sacred Writing as she's a writer who would like to improve and find her flow and inspiration again. Let's help them get settled into the rhythm of writing, which is a whole lot calmer than this little guy ....

@Pamela Lynch I'm amazed, I've met so many great people.
What If You Don't Know Until You Write It?
For years, I thought writing was primarily about communicating something I already knew. You have an idea, figure out what you want to say, and then find the words to express it. But some of my most important realizations have happened while I was writing. I begin with a thought or a question, and somewhere in the writing I recognize something I couldn't articulate before. It isn't necessarily new information. Often it feels more like something I already knew but hadn't yet put into words. This is one reason writing has become so much more than a way of communicating for me. It's also a way of discovering what's within us. Maybe we don't always need to know exactly what we think before we begin. Sometimes we write long enough to recognize it. Writing doesn't tell you what you know. It reveals it. What have you discovered through writing that you didn't know you knew?

Its funny because when I am working for fun I come up with ideas that are buried in my brain and since I love research it leads me on my research path and I learn something new or renew my understanding in something.
What If Creating Doesn't Begin With Doing?
Sacred I was journaling during last night’s Sacred Writing Session and wondered how often we feel stuck because we've been taught to act first. “Just start writing, and the words will come,” they say. I've said it too. My dad used to tell me to think before I spoke. Or at least he tried to. 😂 I never really understood how that was possible. Until now. Although it's not really about thinking first. We've associated creating with doing, but what if, before you open your journal and start writing the sentence, you listen? Can you become quiet enough to notice what's there? The idea, the question, an inner knowing, and then the action comes. The words emerge, and you recognize the next step. Maybe the Sacred Pause isn't a pause from creating. Maybe it's where creating begins. Where in your creative process are you acting before you've listened? Writing begins with coherence.

Agreed, I learned an exercise years ago if your you look around at stuff, spot something and write about it, you never know what it will bring
You Had the Words Five Minutes Ago. Where Did They Go?
You Had the Words Five Minutes Ago. Where Did They Go? You knew what you wanted to say. Maybe the words came while you were walking, making coffee, or thinking about something completely unrelated. Then you sat down to write them, and suddenly you were searching for the right opening. You tried to make the sentence sound better and wondered whether what you wanted to say made sense at all. The words that felt so clear five minutes ago seemed to disappear. This is one reason I teach the Sacred Pause. Before you try to write, pause. Take a breath, become present, and release the pressure to produce something good. You don't need to be clever. You don't need to know exactly where the writing is going. Listen for what is already there. And begin with: What wants to be said is... This is what we practise together in Sacred Writing. For the next few weeks, our two 30-minute Sacred Writing Sessions remain open to everyone in the community. I'll share more soon about some changes coming to Sacred Writing after our Canadian Thanksgiving. What changes in you between having the thought and trying to write it down?

I have learned the hard way, as I have had some what I felt like great ideas and have them slip away. Now keep my phone and journal handy so I don't lose so many 😀
