April 2025 Skate Challenge
Creating a little space here for some intentional skate work next month. This includes: -Studying/watching tutorials/comprehending and breaking down moves -Practicing on or off skates -Practicing skate adjacent skills such as choreo and timing -Skatenance (skate maintenance) -strength and balance exercises -stretching -Rest and recovery days -logging time/activity, tracking and recording The goal is to do these things with consistency Consistency leads to growth. I like the idea of posting regularly for accountability, but also know that sometimes you just don't have the bandwidth to post every day. Maybe you come back here and post once a week about what you did. Whichever works. I hope some of y'all will join me in this April challenge, and share what you're working on throughout the month. I know the end of the challenge will bring many lessons I'd love to hear about.

I've been working on my forward crossovers in motion, step backs and 1 foot pivots for forward to backwards.

@Isabel Athina Mitzen I'm feeling good so far. I went to a local class on Monday and worked on 2foot pivots. Getting a better understanding on weight distribution. Going to work on it more on & off skates
Big skating win yesterday
This year one of my goals was learn more jam skating moves to do at the rink on open sessions. I usually do artistic which i find hard to translate into jam. Yesterday something clicked and I took the little I knew (crossovers, edge work, single leg stuff) and got a great session in. It also helped they were playing a lot of some old school favorites (ex. Earth wind and fire) so I felt comfortable cutting loose. I wish I could've had someone record it so I could look back on it. If anyone needs some inspo here are some moves I did using the foundational skills mentioned above 1. Crossover, step out, cross over, step out, and single leg "surfing" on the curve (surfing- imagine bringing one leg up so your making a 4 and coasting on the skating leg) 2. (Variation of 1) Stomp and step out 3. Front to back transition, back to front transition, front to back transition, kick out left heel, kick out right heel, continue til I slow down enough I want to go back to forward 4. Kick left leg, Kick right leg, repeat I feel like I did more but I can't think of any additional right now. Best of luck yall. Stay groovy πŸ‘Œ

Love this!!
Backward Bubbles
My progress from class this past Saturday. I worked more on my backward bubbles & crossovers. I did loosen a trucks a bit more since the last attempt & they felt better. I know better stability & control will come with more practice but I'm happy about it so far.

Forward Crossovers
I've recently decided to get consistent and serious about roller skating a couple weeks ago. Before this, I was only going twice or three times a year. I left off on learning forward crossovers but was too hesitant and fearful at the time. I've been watching a few videos on this technique lately and for the first time, I finally achieved them at adult skate night today! Super proud of myself and look forward to learning more!

@Lisa McPherson yes! Definitely awkward πŸ˜… This week at home I've been working on being on one foot, picking up & placing my crossover foot down in the movement slowly shifting weight & picking up yet keeping the back foot up for a few seconds before going back into another crossover or straight stance. I'd do this off skates & while on skates, stationary & slow gliding. I feel like I explained the move but made sense in my head lol
Crossovers & backward bubbles
Been working more on my bubbles & crossovers on & off skates. I realized that I am rushing the process of putting my foot back down on crossovers *in motion* & not trusting the process Forward bubbles are good. Want to work on the C-Step version or the one foot bubbles. Not sure of the actual name πŸ˜… Backwards? Better now that my trucks are loosened as I can now do more than 1, but still in progress

@Jada Lee thank you so much! I had skate class on this past Saturday and my backward bubbles are a little better than before. Teacher mentioned to lean into the crossovers to make it more smooth πŸ˜…
