First things first: This did not take your usual 3 months, 6 months or even a year. I started building n8n workflows and taking sales calls with shitty prospects in my dorm room in early 2024. I just wanted to get this disclaimer out of the way, since a lot of people also from my channel/communities only hear part of the story. These first few clients I got to work with were me stepping away from a very delusional life that has been portrayed to me (and probably you) all this time. Coming from a place of excessive consumption this is a huge reality check. I'm talking watching AI content on repeat: Liam, Nick, Nate, & whatever was suggested next. As you can tell this drew me away from the real world and fed other people’s success instead of living mine. Sure, their content is useful to a complete beginner, but obviously it got me nowhere after a certain time. Point is this: In person relationships with credible people >>> Anything online And the cool thing is the latter fuels the first one. It will always be like this with more AI slop and people starting to ‘automate’ the most basic form of interaction/cognitive load. I started practicing this by e.g. putting up standup pressers as some of you saw in the last video. But for me it was a question of reframing it to ‘just talking to working people’ instead of ‘b2b lead gen’. The most rewarding thing is taking the online relationships offline. It’s also how I signed my first paying client - a warm intro from another founder. Have an onboarding meeting with a local client? Do it in a cafe. Want to close prospects? Take them out to dinner, show them printed research slides. Talk to them as if you know them since childhood… Personally, I realized that assuming familiarity has been the very method that actually builds it. Maybe it's the same for you.
